I just don't understand...

Okay, so I work at a Super 8 in Daytona Beach, FL and we always have a lot of hispanic workers here. I'd say right now it's about 50% of the rooms occupied right now are hispanic. Last night I worked afternoon shift. This man had made reservations through Orbitz for 2 rooms. So I checked him in and about 15 minutes later he comes to the front desk
Man: I need to be moved
Me: Okay, where did you want to move?
-pointing at map on counter-
Man: I need both of my rooms to be over on this side (the side opposite of where I had put him)
Me: Sir I can only put you over there if you didn't mind have 1 King bed, none of those rooms are doubles
Man: No I need doubles... what about over here? -pointing at front side of motel-
Me: No I'm sorry sir, but those are all taken
Man: Well if I can't get a room in a different area I'm leaving.
Me: Was there something wrong with the room? I don't understand...
Man: No, the room is fine. There's just a bunch of migrant workers over by our room and I cannot be over there, I don't feel safe. If you can't give me a a diffrent room I want my refund

:shocked:At this point I'm thinkin "This guy is not going to get any sympathy from me.. he doesn't realize he's talking to someone whose boyfriend and a lot of friends are 'migrant' workers"

Me: I'm sorry I cannot give you a refund
Man: Why not? I just got here and I'm leaving
Me: You're going to have to call Orbitz.

He proceeds to yell at me for not giving him a refund and I asked him nicely to lower his voice... and as someone new walks in he starts yelling "You don't want to stay here, all it is is a f*cking Mexican hang out" Immediately I told him that if he didn't leave I was going to call the cops. He left. :curse: I was FUMING.

Well after getting off at 11 I had to be back here at 7... and just about 15 minutes ago Orbitz called asking if I was going to charge the guy. I told them yes, because of how rude he had been and what he had said. Needless to say he doesn't get his refund :angel:

But seriously, where do people get off? These workers are awesome... so funny and so nice... I love it when they're here because they're always so polite and I get to practice my Spanish. They never cause any problems and no one ever complains about them... only people like this guy because they don't want to be around them. I wish people realized that this country was founded by immigrants! Grrr I'm so irritated right now!

Immagration issues are a very touchy subject with me as well as everyone else. I refuse to sit and listen to anyone mouth off or talk bad about immagrants, its just not right.

Yeah i know and it was for 2 rooms and 2 nights so yeah he's probably fuming right now and I'll probably get a complaint sent through headquarters. But my manager is so laid back and will probably just say "Serves him right" haha :D Even if I got in trouble I wouldn't care. That guy deserves NOTHING!!!

I use to be a supervisor of a Hilton. Most of our staff were fromother countries. Even our General Manager was Italian with a very strong accent so you gould tell. I would have flipped a lid and not refunded him either. People are so ignorant.

When I worked at the hotel there were plenty of times when we would have a "walk" and once this guy threw an apple at me and my co-worker. Needless to say we kicked him out and made him pay for the room with us and at the Sheraton.

It really is a lot of fun... there's been several people I've not given refunds to because they're so rude or ignorant. People don't realize that being rude/racist/whatever gets them NOWHERE. That's horrible that man threw an apple at you! This one guy cussed me out and called me names because I didn't give him his "regular" rate... and I was giving him one CHEAPER than his regular rate.... BOGUS. I see/hear/deal with so many crazy people in this business!!

I should have, but I didn't want to stoop to his level and start arguing with him. That probably would have just made things worse. The girl working afternoon shift tonight told me he called to speak to me... baaahahaha. Too bad I'm not authorizing his refund!!

It's very discouraging.. especially when family acts that way. My sister-in-law's dad is very conservative and always sends me these e-mails about immigration... like last week I got one about OK and how they're passing some law or something... and then it goes on to give all these "Facts" about why immigrants shouldn't be here. I don't know why he sends that crap to me... all it does is make me like that side of the family even less. GRRR. Racism is a disease.
