My fiance is in county jail and says they are being treated poorly. He is sending a letter about whats going on in jail. With there stories and all the names of guys in jail. He wants me to send letter out to Primer Impacto, Jorge Ramos, Piolin Por La Manana, and Consuldad de Meixco. Is there anything I can do in the mean time. Once I receive letter I will post it here. As he's not told me all that is going on in there.

Where is he located? You might want to tell all your local news stations. Do you have a local "problem solving" news cast? I would send out letters to everyone and anyone who'll listen. what about the city mayor? Or the coucilmen. Get to work girlfriend. Abuse of people (innocent or not) has to stop.

Who is treating him badly, other inmates or the prison staff?? It might be harder to rally people behind other inmates treating them badly, but if the guards are guilty, that's a whole different story. Wait 'til you get the letter then make a decision about who to post to. I'd take it to your local newspaper or tv media first.

Just my two cents, but knowing where you are, I'd go past local first. If you start with local, it'll get buried. You know how things are around here.

It's really so sad here. The police are the ones treating them badly. Not sure of all details. He told me story that 2 other inmates not illegals claimed illegal broke pipe on sink as soon as they told officer this they sprayed illegal with pepper spray hit him in head with baton and hauled him off to isolation. Theres guys been there for month with no court date set for no DL theres some that have gone to court and police still say they have to pay fine. I think they are holding till immigration can come get all. I always thought if you couldn't pay ticket and served time in jail when you went to court they would give you time served. Called local news station about my story 2 weeks ago when he go picked and they pretty much said what story he's illegal. It's really so sad here my story is sad and I'm trying to help people worse off than me thats in jail with my fiance. Last night a guy that was in jail (has been there a month) asked fiance to ask me to call about his girlfriend (who is also illegal) 20 days away from having baby at a trailor by herself, no telephone to call for help, no money, nothing to eat to see if one of his friends would go pick her up and let her stay with him. Got to call back today if they want go pick her up I will. So many sad sad stories around here.

Wow, this is so sad. Why don't you send out multiple letters like I suggested. send it to your Congressman or what about calling an Adult protective services office? The state runs those and they can investigate anyone.

Just talked to my Mom and she said I probably wouldn't receive the letter if they read it. Can they really do that? What happened to freedom of speech. I pray that the letter comes so I can give it out. My fiance told me who to send it to. He has no faith or trust in our government none of them do. I personally don't blame them because I feel the same way. These hard working people being treated worse than murderers. He wants me to pass it own to mexican media.

They have not given him a court date?! The tickets here (SC Uniform Traffic Ticket) has a place on it where the court date must be written. Will the jail not give you his court date?

Angelia

Nope want give the info to him or me. They say they don't know when court date will be. I don't understand that for a traffic ticket the officer that stops you has certain dates that they have court and it's always on the tickets. But not one mexican down there now has a court date and no one will tell them when they will have one.

This is just one of the letters. Don't understand how this man could be in there this long. ICE didn't station in our jail till 07-25-08 I was told this buy lawyer and by police. This guy has been in there since the 17th? I'm sure they new ICE would be stationed there and lied to the man and his family. And the immigration official saying he'd be back in September the 15 to get all of them? Oh God I don't understand this. How are you going to keep people in jail for 2 months for no DL.

Another letter says also that has flu and can't even get a tylenol. That they call them

I don't know how I missed this. Angelia... I don't know if you sent this on to someone yet, but I'm getting some addresses now that I think will be good. Will get them to you tonight. I'll either call you or email you.

They are going to keep doing it until you, or one of the other family members hires an attorney. Local officials CANNOT keep you just "until" ICE gets there. There is a time limit. If they have no reason to keep him after that they must let him go.

You MUST contact a lawyer. If you cannot afford one yourself, go to the local ACLU.

I sent letters to Mexican Embassy, local congress men, governor, senators, primer impacto, jorge ramos, piolin por la manana, local newspaper, local newstation and still today have received to reply. I called and called to police station till they took the man who wrote first letter to doctor. His family wouldn't help because they were scared of immigration. Im glad to report he was taken to doctor and has had his medicine since. The abuse still there I would call it abuse it's racism. I'm affected by it every time I call police station or go visit police station. As soon as I give fiance name there attitude changes toward me. When I've been to visit had a police scream at my 4 yr old to sit down and let another child run around hollering playing. I wasn't allowed to take a bag of cereal for baby to eat during a visit and seen other children with soda chips etc. I could go on and on but I want. In my visits with fiance there was 1 kind police officer that treated me and kids nice. I could never explain how it feels to be treated this way. There have been times it made me cry and times when it was hard for me to hold my tongue (especially when that man hollered at my daughter) I wanted to say something so bad but I didn't I knew if I opened my mouth I wouldn't be able to control what was coming out. Now theres only 5 men left in jail including Fiance and they all have court tomorrow. So ICE will come get them tomorrow or Wed. My fiance said that they could even come get them tomorrow. I tried to help them everyone while they were there. I tried to get help for the abuse but couldn't. I'm proud of myself though. I got the one man medical help. I've made calls for probably every illegal that was detained in Spartanburg County Jail. I have 3 wayed so they could talk to wife and kids I've called and give times and dates for visitation, I've put paytell on telephones so husbands could talk to wifes. I've tracked the men as far as could I could thru immigration system. From here to NC give the wifes address there to write and send money, from NC to Lumpkin GA at Stewart so they can write letters and keep in contact. Please don't take this as bragging because I'm not. I just realized that one person can make a small difference. I was able to keep familys in contact with each other and I am happy that I can do that. I just wanted to post this to let everyone know one person can make a difference. Thanks to all who have helped me thru this. Thru your help I was able to help others. I thank God everyday I found Immigrate2US.

Good for you! I can't even get out the words that I want to right now. I'm sitting at work in tears. I am so glad that you have done the things you have. I hope that soon I can find the resources to fulfill my dream of starting an advocacy center. These stories just tear me up, and it's got to stop. It makes me sick that I live in a world that this goes on in, and that I am a part of this system. I'm proud to say, though that I try so hard to use my job to do the kinds of things you are doing. And one day....God willing, I will be able to help on a much bigger scale......just need the resources.
I know things are so hard for you right now, but be proud of yourself, cause you are not just sitting back and letting yourself get beat up. You are doing everything you can.

Thanks Kelli I appreciate that. I did what I could do but still a part of me feels bad that I couldn't do more. When you do start that advocacy center I'll be your first volunteer. I've never been ashamed of being a US citizen but reading the storys here and my situation I hate to say I am. We send all this support to other countries and want even help our own or better yet our next door neighbors. I don't understand it at all.

@Angelia Post #15 Bless your soul and heart!!

Maybe you can contact this group Detention Watch Network.

http://www.detentionwatchnetwork.org/node/529

Does the churches in your area know of any advocacy groups nearby? Usually Catholic Charities and Lutheran Services might know of a group to assist.

My fiance is at El Paso Processing Center now. I was wanting to help the ladies who got take in Greenville Raid. I know they were sent to Atlanta Detention Center but I can't do much without there names. Trying to figure out how to find there names. Would like to offer them help. Same as what I did here. Set up so can make phone calls, let family members know how to send them money, how they can send letters etc. There has to be a way. I know if you don't have someone telling you how to do these things they want ever know. I'm sorry I'm brainstorming

you could have someone call the mexican consulate and talk with them. It's their job to investigate these claims. Thats what they're there for, to protect mexican nationals. Sending a letter prob wont do mnuch good because chances ar ethey may not read it.
