Hi, my mom is going to apply for a tourist visa because as I'm going to have a baby she is going to visit me and help me for the first two months (I'm a student here in US). She is nervous because she got a denial... two times, last time was about 5 years ago. I think it was because of "insufficient ties" but I'm not sure. (she is not sure either) she knows has more income, she is a retailer, she has her own house, I have a teen brother who is studying at college... so i think her situation is better now.
Now she is not sure if putting that information in the ds-156 because she lost her last passport and she doesn't remember the exact date of the last denial.
Somebody told me that the embassy "deletes" their records about denials after 3 years... is that correct? we don't want to lie but i dunno what is the best solution for this problem.
any suggestion? :shy: thanks!

Be as truthful as you can. If you can't remember exactly, then guesstimate and explain that it is you best recollection.

I agree... don't hide anything. I might write a letter (from you) to enclose that explains that you just want your mom to come for a short time to help with your pregnancy in addition to all the proof of ties to her own business, etc...
Best of luck!

— important notice to visa applicants —
WARNING
In order to maintain a visa process that is fair and equitable to all applicants, the Fraud Prevention Unit would like you to know the following facts:
A computer record of previous visa applications and detentions by U.S. border authorities or law enforcement officers is available to all consular officers at the time of your visa application and to all U.S. immigration officers. Attempts to conceal such records can lead to visa ineligibility and/or denial of admission to the United States.
Presenting false or altered documents, or someone else’s documents as your own, could result in a permanent denial of visas to yourself and possibly your family.

Thank you very much for your replies. I also thought that is better to tell the truth since it is very riskful to hide something. I really hope she can make it this time. She is applying in Peru and her appointment is this monday 18th. i will let you know what happens... Please wish us good luck!

hey!!! I have good news! My mom got the visa :)
We are so happy! Thank you very much for your help and good wishes!
We still don't know how long she can stay, we need to wait until wednesday when she receives her passport from the embassy.
She didn't hide anything so she was very confident, she put in her application that she was denied before but as she didn't remember when (it was almost 10 years ago) she didn't write the date. But the officer didn't say anything about that! Maybe he saw through his system that it was a long time ago and didn't considered as a reason to deny her. And the first thing they requested was a letter of invitation from me! thanks God I sent her the letter by email! I thought that it was not considered because I was not a US citizen... but the officer requested it! And it worked!
