1. My boyfriend has his valid passport from Honduras but no ITIN or SSN. Any suggestions on the best state to get married? (ease of requirements and process?)

2. Then after we get married, we'd like to file joint taxes while applying for the ITIN and declaring his back taxes to be paid. Has anyone done this sort of thing? Any suggestions of where to start or what is needed?

Thanks!

We got married with no trouble in Milwaukee, I think it really just depends on the municipality. I would call your local courthouse and ask about the requirements to get a marriage license. We did have to go to the SS office and get a letter that said "Mr. Laura does not have a SS number and is currently ineligible for one." That was all they asked for.

My husband filed for the ITIN a few years ago, I think it was a slightly different process then, but overall relatively painless. He also did two years of back taxes at that time. Again, I would suggest visiting your local IRS office and asking what you need to do for the ITIN. It was not a hassle though.

Good luck!
