Ahmadinejad hints at big world challenges
Tue, 29 Jul 2008 13:10:46

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic says the world is currently on the verge of a very big and crucial development.

"On the one hand, the people of the world are facing momentous and frustrating challenges and, on the other hand, they want to create a bright and hopeful future for themselves," Ahmadinejad said at the opening ceremony of the 15th Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added that in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq as well as some countries in Africa and Asia, insecurity and war reign supreme, making life difficult for the people.

"Some areas of the world are suffering from chronic insecurity to which we have yet to find a solution. A case in point is the occupied Palestine," he added.

Insecurity, sanctions and embargoes imposed by the Zionist regime have put the lives of women, children and the sick in danger, President Ahmadinejad said, adding, "For decades now, the Israeli regime has proved itself to be an obstacle in the path of the region's development and prosperity."

"The occupation of Iraq was a humanitarian disaster of huge dimensions. Up to one million people have fallen victim to the occupation, with millions more becoming refugees in their own land or foreign countries," he said.

Ahmadinejad stressed that had Saddam's dictatorship not been supported by certain powers and had Iraq not been occupied later, it would have been among the pioneers of development and welfare in the region.

"Proliferation of nuclear weapons is the result of competition between great powers as well as being an instrument in the hands of certain powers to impose their political will on other countries and nations," he said.

Despite the great dangers posed by nuclear weapons, big powers persist in keeping the proliferation, upgrading, and stockpiling of these weapons at the top of their agenda, Ahmadinejad noted.

He angers me more than anything.
Can't say I'm really scared of him, but he's the kind of loud-mouthed idiot who will start something just to have his name in a history book.
