dhs verification

I got my EAD and applied for a ss# but each time i call the social security office they tell me they are waiting for verification from dhs so they could send my card. What should i do to ensure DHS does the verification. Should I call DHS and if so whats the number? i really need my card. I have a job lined up with the airline.

I wonder why the verification is taking so long. When my husband applied for his ssn the verification from dhs took only a few minutes.

It depends on a few factors - I believe you entered on a tourist visa, is that correct, queenv?

In which case, I believe the check they have to do (validating work authorization) takes longer than my husband's check did - he entered on a K1 and thus did not need work authorization from DHS to get the SS card. All they needed to verify was under what status did he enter.
