My fiance´s medical exam was on Friday. It was really easy and took only about 40 minutes. We talked to other people who waited literally all day for their medical exam, so I guess we just got lucky?!
On Tuesday my fiance went to the consulate for his open appointment for fiance visa (K-1). We got in line at about 7:15 AM. My fiance entered the consulate at about 8:20 AM. He was in the consulate all day, until about 5:00 PM, and he only talked to a consular employee for about 15 minutes. He was fingerprinted and paid the $85 fee with a debit card at the consulate. The consular employee looked through all of his paperwork and gave my fiance a form letter for me to sign in order for the consulate to continue processing his visa and a blue pass to return the next day at 7:00 AM. The letter stated that my fiance needs a waiver for unlawful presence and deportation and provided two options: 1) I authorize the processing of his visa and want to file waivers for his ineligibility or 2) I want to withdraw my petition for him.
I signed the letter, of course, and we returned to the consulate the next day at 6:45 AM to wait in line with all the other people who were given blue passes the previous day. My fiance entered the consulate at about 7:45 AM. Apparently he will need to turn in the form and then will have his actual visa interview today.
Okay, my fiance is done with the visa interview. He turned in the letter with my signature, then he had to wait for about an hour and a half, then he went to another window and the person explained what he had to do for the waiver appointment. My fiance was done by 11:30 AM! They didn´t ask him any questions about our relationship. He thinks they saw the huge pile of stuff I sent with him (pictures, letters, emails, etc) and decided not to! :bounce:
Now we wait till Friday morning - Infopass at 8:30 AM sharp!
I will update this as things happen!

Approval on the spot; is that possible? It sounds like the next appointment will be to submit the waiver, then on to the waiting game...or perhaps I am confused with how the InfoPass works now.

The whole point of the pilot program is to be able to submit the waiver and get approved the same day or the next day. (This is their effort to eliminate a future backlog like we have been experiencing for the past year -- in the past, it was a 4-6 month wait) Infopass is just the method of submitting it for immediate review. Fingers crossed that it's an immediate approval!

Thanks for the info KitKat. As I have not been involved in the Pilot Program I had no idea how it works. That would be great if waivers could be reviewed and decided upon on the spot! Best of luck Inlimbo!!!

Better that you didn't know - it pissed off most of the people who didn't qualify since we were left in the backlog with no additional resources to get us out any faster!

I know how fortunate I am to be one of the Open Appointment recipients and to have not fallen into the backlog trap and chaos so many are experiencing. I truly feel for you and do know how difficult is must be to see the crowds that are racing through the Pilot Program. The process is so unfair most of the time. Everyone going through this nightmare has my most sincere respect for the long journey and sacrafices endured to be with the ones they love.

You WERE in the backlog! You waited 9 months instead of 2 days (or 4-6 months in the past)! Thankfully you don't have a 4+ month wait for a visa pick-up - at least you "qualified" for the open appt!

I guess I didn't really consider myself in the backlog as I've seen so many with waiver submittals two months or more earlier than me. That, and I entered into this nightmare figuring it would be a year or more before I received a response. I will admit, when I heard about the Open Appointments, I was elated as I had expected the four month future appointment. I'm hoping that the other consulates helping with the backlog get into the swing of things SOON! Not looking forward to the next cycle of AOS...hope I don't wear out my welcome here as that's an 18 month process? I appreciate all the support and true comraderie I witness daily.

hi everyone,
thanks everyone for all of you kind words and hopeful thinking. I don't have a lot of time to post now, but I just wanted to give everyone the update. We were not approved, we were referred to the backlog.
So now we have to take a step back and figure out where to go from here. It's pretty disappointing, honestly, but not entirely unexpected. I will post more details on the interview experience later.
Thanks again everyone.

So sorry!!! He had a deportation right? Well, I seriously doubt that it will take a year to hear something since they ahve changed the waiver process. Hopefully you guys will get an approval in 6 months or less!

Hey Everyone,
I have a question, has any one written a HSL that didn't include any medical conditions. I really don't have any medical conditions (besides depression from all this process). Has any of you written a HSL that didn't include any medicals.
