Urgent... has to be received by this Monday!!
Due to not receiving some necessary documents from Egypt in time to include in the RFE package, the courier service can not guarantee Monday July 21st delivery.. Can I drive the 2 hours and personally drop off the package to the Vermont Service Center?
Also.. the top of our I797 says "Respond by July 21, 2008" but down further in the letter says
"2. Your response must be received in this office on or before (July 20, 2008) is inserted but this is a Sunday... I assume this was a typo..think there will be a problem with receiving it July 21st Monday?
Ofcourse Customer service is closed so I can not call anyone... ugh!!!! Anyone? any idea?
Thank you VERY much!
Felicia

OK, there is nothing on the website about this. . .though I am continuing to look. If you are only two hours away, I would say it is worth a try, because the alternative is missing the deadline completely.

What would have been best to do, was send them a registered letter explaining that the evidence was coming from a foreign country, and requesting some extra time for "travel" and getting a Senator/House rep or attorney to help you out (possibly) Hindsight is of course 20/20, but just in case it happens in the future. . .(having dealt with Pakistan I know that these things are frequent occurrences.)

If I were you, and I wanted to either drive it down, IF they let you drop it off, it will be with a security guard and it will need to be packed as a letter. . .you will want to highlight the date of the 21 in a copy of your letter that you submit with a cover letter explaining. Also, take the name of the guard who accepts your package.

The more that I read, the less friendly I think they are going to be with you walking the evidence in, they don't seem to advocate anyone visiting the office (if you google "walk-in USCIS Vermont you'll see what I mean.)

If you are truly on a deadline though, just act like a courier, meaning, let them know you don't expect any answers you just needed to turn it in. They have lots of online warnings that they are not set up to handle walk-in inquiries or application submissions, but if you don't expect answers, they probably won't be as bad. . .just remember it will be high security like all govt. buildings.

BTW: I deleted the other post in the Middle East section. . .since you're going through Montreal, you'll want to post/peruse this section. . .they are no fun to deal with. . .

well I paid $74 to send package overnite and guess what.... di NOT get there overnite... It took 2.5 days! Called Canada Post and they were very sorry but did not know why it was not there in 24 hours. They showed it should have been. They refunded me the $74 (actually will receive in mail) and advised me I had to go to the postal location and ask them why (Pharaprix). Well I plan to go today because I want some type of documentation showing it was not our fault.. just incase we need it... Ohhhhh I hope and pray we are not penalized for the package being 2 days late....:fright:

even IF you would have driven the package there... the address that is on the website is NOT the actual address of the offices.. its just a destination place and.. they re route it automatically to a different.. undisclosed location. I doubt they even open your package there...

I agree with Alicia,I overnight mine to the address that it had on the papework and it was sent to another location, it's not the same. It got there the next day I used UPS.
