Hey I hope this gets seen right away..
Someone in Laurel's chat today mentioned something about a virus pop-up.. I thought she was maybe wrong and maybe it was her computer but now it did it to me right now too.. when I first went to I2us on the home page.. it's popped up twice so far.. it's one of those "Do you want to scan your computer" things but the fake ones

Weird...here's the crazy part. When I use the search box here on i2us, I get the list of results like usual, but if I click on any of them, I get a popup for a virus scan, too! Very fake because it's for Windows XP and I'm on a Mac. It's really weird that Laurel's site is having the same type of issue.

ok let me look into it
I used the search and everything is fine on my end.
Get adaware and spybot and scan your computer with both of those.

Great. Now I'm scared. Why can't they leave us alone! Years ago, in my computer class, my teacher said that he had a theory, that the same people who fixing the computers are the ones who send virus so they would never be out of a job. Who knows.....
Thanks for the warning, Task.

amanda, do you have a virus protection? like Symetec or Macfee, something like that? if so scan your computer and the service can see if it was a virus or not.

I don't use Windows XP, but if I recall correctly, here would be one way of dealing with whatever got on your computer. Hopefully someone more experienced in de-virus-ing PCs will clarify if necessary.
1) Go to Start ---> Search ---> "For files and folders"
2) Click the green arrow next to "All Files and folders"
3) Leave all the fields blank, but go to the one that says "When was it modified"
4) Click in the "Specified Dates" area, and then on the pull-down menu, select "Created Date". This will look for any file created (downloaded) today.
5) Put in today's date, and click "search".
6) You should get a list of all the stuff downloaded today, and if a virus was downloaded, it should be on that list.
From here there are a few methods. The simplest would be to just delete everything on that list of "created today" files. But you'd want to be careful not to delete anything you purposely downloaded or created.
A lot of viruses wrap their tentacles around the computer so well that even when you think they've been deleted, they're still there. The other way would be to keep that window open and go into your installed software box and see if anything matches the files downloaded today. You could uninstall whatever it is. But again, sometimes these viruses create new programs out of themselves and it's hard to trace everything completely.
I hope you can figure out how to get rid of it!

This is the google search option..... not the actual forum search option. Is that where it happened to you also Tasks?

I think it's the google ads. Sometimes that happens. I took them off and you guys should (i think) all be on default theme.
I need to go but the search thing won't change until the search engines recrawl our webspace.
bare with me, it's going to be a long night.

It's funny, I changed to the default theme, probably 2 minutes before Marie switched us all. So I was like "What is she talking about?" for a few minutes after I saw her message. :p I'm slow sometimes...

I had to do a system restore to fix my computer. It only happens if you search for I2US through google.
