Does anyone know what to do for a dog bite? My older dog snapped at one of the puppies yesterday, not even a puncture wound, just scratched her face a little by her whiskers and last night her face swelled up. She seems to be feeling much better this morning, playing with the other puppoes, eating the cat food:D I read goldenseal is like a natural anitbiotic that you can put on the wound but she doesn't really have a wound per say. Any advice?
Edit:
here's a pictue of my sweet little Rella with her right lip swollen.

Edit:
here's what she normally looks like.

Is there any scratches or holes on the inside of the lip?

none that I can see. I just asked my son who was here and he said it didn't really bleed or anything, just a scratch.
Edit:
OK, she was playing with the other dogs when it ruptured with pus & blood. I think it is a tooth that went straight in. I got as much out as I could, cleaned it with 50% hydrogen peroxide solution, and applied Neosporin. We've separated her from the other dogs so she can rest undisturbed.

you should check online to see if there are vets available. I know my vet gave me a list of clinics that are open 24/7 in case of emergencies. you should get her checked out, just in case it gets infected......she is soo adorable by the way.

she is adorable. I'd try to keep it clean and try to find a clinic. If you can't, there isn't much you can do until monday. Poor baby

The initial visit at the weekend clinic here is $150...cash & it's 30 minutes away. I'd much rather taker her to my vet Monday where it will still be close to that price but she will be able to get her shots too.

I picked up some golden seal which I read acts like a natural antibiotic. I'll give her a shower with me and see if I can put that on it.

whenever Miko has scratches or cuts I use triple antibiotic ointment. I just make sure he doesn't lick it. If it's really bad I take him to the vet.

Have you called your vet? There should be an emergency number. Alot of times they have an answering service.

The area vets use the same ER pet hospital in the next town and you get whoever is working :(
It actually looks better and she is back rough-housing with the other puppies. I think I must have got it cleaned out good and the Neosporin is working.

you can get some asprin for dogs at walmart and for the cut I would put bag balm on it. I use it on animals for everything, sometimes I even use it on humans....its better then neosporin
