Our new baby, Cheyenne

OK, so she's really not a baby. LOL she's actually quite large.

We got her from the pound on June 7. We named her Cheyenne, but we call her "Shy" for short because that's exactly what she is. We think she was mistreated by men because she won't go near them. If I walk her and there is a man nearby, she will stop in her tracks and we have to wait for him to move or go around him. She is also scared of brooms. Whenever my mom takes the broom out, Shy runs in the other direction. We can't play fetch with her either, because as soon as you raise your arm, she runs away. :( Isn't that the saddest thing?

That's a picture of my mom and my sister with Cheyenne at the pound before we brought her home. She was so frightened she wouldn't even look up at us when we were petting her.

First thing she did when we came home was to jump on the couch LOL.


Does anybody have any advice as to how we can get Shy to stop hating men? She won't go near my dad or my husband. She also growled at my dad once, and barked at my husband once. Other than that she has been absolutely silent. I'm concerned because my dad wants to be her friend so badly lol... I just want them to get along... any advice?

my sister had a dog like that. Scared of all men. Sister's boyfriend starting bringing the dog yummy things to eat, like steak and eventually the dog started to trust him.

My mums ****er spaniel was like that, he was terrified of my dad, it took him about a year, with my dad working with him, being extra gentle and giving him treats ect. He still has his moments but does pretty well now :)

BTW.. Shy is beautiful :D

Aww she is so pretty. I don't have any advice but maybe contact Ratito, I know she has rescued alot of animals and might be able to give you some pointers.

MMGCA, we have no idea what she is. The pound said that she was a German shepherd mix, but she doesn't look like one to me. She has the German shepherd coloring in her paws, but that's it. Everywhere else she is black. Do you know the breed of your dog?

Salsa & mouse, my dad has also been bribing the dog with food and treats, but she doesn't like him yet so I thought it wasn't working. But on the other hand, we've had her for less than a month, LOL. I want it to work faster!Thanks for sharing your experiences, it makes me feel less hopeless!

That's our first dog. We loved him like crazy, but he shed way too much fur so we said we'd never get another collie. Haha. He was a great dog, though.

She looks like a girl I used to have..her name was Annie.....she passed away 9 years ago. We got her when my youngest was 5 :(
