Add ground beef to water in a 4 quart pot. Stir until beef separates to a fine texture. Boil slowly for 30 minutes. Add all other ingredients. Stir to blend, bringing to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 3 hours. Pot may be covered the last hour after desired consistency is reached.

I first visited one of the Skyline restaurants when I was in Failfield/Cinci area. I had googled for the copy-cat recipes to prove to somebody that chocolate can be added to the ingredients. Our Wal-Mart Supercenter in Florida sells Skyline chili/spaghetti (no cheese) in the frozen food section. I'm not sure if I might've seen it sold in a can in another state. My favorite coneys, though, are from Coney Island, Tulsa OK.

This looks so interesting. In some ways it has things in common with mole, the chocolate, spices, chiles. I will make this some time. Thanks!

If you make the Skyline, you have to eat it with cheese and raw onions on top. Delicious.

OOHHHH thank you for posting. I spent my early years in Cincinnati and there are two things I miss: Skyline chilli and Graeter's ice cream. Finally I can have one of them!
I think a 5-way is in order now...

You are welcome. When we go "home" most of our meals are at Skyline Chilli. I know what you mean about missing it......
We are not so hooked on Graeter's like so many Cincinnatians. Graeter's will ship in dry ice. http://www.graeters.com/ I don't think they will ship to Mexico though.
We love Blue Bell Ice Cream from Texas. But you can get it at Outback and Flemings steakhouses......

Thanks for the info, Pinkpig! Yum. Now that I think about it, I haven't had Graeter's in over 16 years, and pretty much nothing on Earth tops gelato in Italy, so it's probably not worth all the extra effort. Now I'm curious, though...

My husband would agree with you about the gelato in Italy...as you face the front of Saint Marks in Venice right there on the left as you come out of the alley into the square, there is the best gelato that we have ever had. love the memories :)

Ohmygosh, how weird! I just logged on to Facebook and in my "news feed," it says one of my friends joined the Skyline Chili fan club. I'd never even heard of it before PinkPig posted the recipe, and now it's everywhere! I'm going to have to try it now ...
