Hello all!!

I have a question that needs answering..

I have a cancer patient living in NYC with no family here except her 4 small children. She is from Honduras and our hospital is trying to apply for an emergency visa for her sister to come and support her emotionally and take care of her children while she starts aggressive chemo and radiation treatments.

What steps must I take to have this expedited in a proper manner?

Thanks so much..

I am not to familiar with this but I think it might be a Humanitarian Parole. Go to this link, it might help. Good Luck :)

Thank you both for your quick replies- The info on that website for parole says that the visa usually takes 90-... days- this patient might not have that long- Does anyone know the process for an Emergency Visa to the USA?

Have you tried asking your elected US Senator and US Representative for help?
This is the type of thing they might help you do under their constituent services.

Yes, it is humanitarian parole. I believe contacting the Senators and Congresspeople for that state is the best method. It's still going to be extremely difficult.

I am not sure if this will help, but we got an emergency humanitarian visa for my MIL back in 2005 when my FIL was very ill, the way it worked for us, the social worker at the hosptial contacted our local Mexican Consulate, and they needed a letter from the doctor stating the diagnosis which they did (this might make a difference as they believed he was going to die), and forwarded all this to consulate here in Atlanta. The liasion at the Mexican Consulate, then worked with DHS, who within 72 hours got the visa approved, my MIL had to travel to CDJ and get her visa, and was on a bus to Atlanta. The visa was only good for 2 weeks.

I am not sure in your specific case, best to start with the hosptial social worker, or the doctors office where they are receiving treatment, then contact the appropriate consulate. I wish you luck!
