My husband has at least 8 years worth of work credits and I would like them to be transfered to his new SS number. He worked with a fake ss# and his name and then filed taxes with the ITIN.
Has anyone been successful doing this? If you don't feel comfortable posting it on this thread could you IM me? I have tried looking up whether he would be proscuted for trying to do this and I have only had a few leads. Any thoughts?
Mandy, I don't have an answer, but I'm glad to see you here. How are you? And the baby? I hope life is going GREAT!

my husband has to do the same thing too, but he was told all we need to do is take his w-2 and they will transfer his information to his new number.

Does anyone know if you can go to your old employer and ask for a copy of past W-2's?
Unfortunately my hubby in all his wisdom.... didn't keep them!

I might be wrong but I don't think you can transfer the credits since it was a fake or illegally SSN. We get notices from the Social Security Office all the time saying the number doesn't match the name etc. I honestly don't think he can get credit for the last 8 years without getting into some trouble or without it being a big hassle.

My husband also reported his income with and INS number that was assigned to him.
Im glad you asked this question and the answer they told us was yes that they could transfer the previous taxes but needed the W2s.
While we were on the phone with a person from the SS office they told us they could but we had to have all the information ready. Well my husband was not ready so he said he would call back and he forgot to get his extension number. So when he called again another person answered and told him "No, you have to do that at your own time when you go to the SS office."
We still have not yet done it because they close when my husband gets off of work.
I hope one day my husband can ask for a day off to get that over with.

This is the same paper they always mailed us!
By the way the SS office told us we could still get credit for the previous incomes.

My husband is assigned a number by the INS that he uses when he does his taxes. THe person that does our taxes told us that as soon as my husband receives a valid social security number than the credits he earned can be transferred to his legal social security number. I do not know any further information on how to do it though. Hope you settle this.

Both my Brother -in laws have great credit with a fake SSN. they actually got brand new cars with that SSN and got a better finance % than I did, oh well. It goes to show they must not be paying attention too much. They got loans through Credit Unions!

I may be wrong, but I thought I read something a while back in Laurels chat about this and I was thinking she said it could be done....I am not positive but I seem to remember this.

It can be done here where we are staying at.
Because we called directly to the Social Security office and told us what to present to there office.

ok i just talked to my friend and her husband was able to do that, all they as for is his green card and his w2 for the years that he want's to change to his new ss#, she told me that he did his taxes with a ITIN# for the past 5 years so that is what he took, since he did file his taxes for those years.

Thank you guys!!! Jenny it shouldn't be a problem with the IRS IF you filed your taxes. I hate my SS office but we may go to another one and try for it. I will be calling first though!!!
