OK...I'm getting very hopeful that we might be hearing about November 07 approvals soon so I was wondering how you and your loved ones celebrated?

My entire family and the friends that I'm closest to would like for us to have a party when my husband gets back. Kind of like a "Green Card" party or Clean Slate/New Beginning kind of thing. Did any of you do this?

I worry that my husband will feel awkward about it since he feels badly about the situation he's (kind of) started. I'm over it and just want him back so we can move on. I think it would be nice to recognize the event in some way. Any ideas?

You could have a barbecue with a "green" them because of the green card.

You could decorate with green balloons and crepe paper and have green margaritas and lots of other green foods, like guacamole, celery sticks, green jell-o, pistachio ice cream, etc.

You could even make a "green card" cake pretty easily. Just make a white sheet cake and frost it with vanilla frosting dyed green, then put a big square picture of your hubby on it and pipe some "information" on it to make it look like a big green card. Hehe.

I bet you could even find a store that could do a professional "green card" cake. I know that there are places that can put pictures on a cake. Just download a picture of a random greencard from the net and blow it up and put your hubby's picture on it and ask the store if they can put it on a sheet cake.

I know the green cards technically aren't green any more, but I still think it would be cute.

You could get some green posterboard and blow up some pictures of your hubb and have your kids make some big greencard decorations to hange around.

Or if you don't like the greencard theme, you could always do red, white, and blue with American flags. I'm thinking I'd like to do something like that for Mr. G when he gets his citizenship.

OMG - I'm dying here! Those are great ideas! I was also going to make a bunch of little green cards on construction paper and hang them all down from the ceiling. I wanted to also ask people to wear green! I think my husband will think it's funny after a couple of those green margaritas!

Those sound like great ideas!

We didn't do much because we kept it a huge secret from my family (only my mom knew & she happened to be visiting at the time.) I do have a photo of my husband walking out of the doors of the office on the bridge, hand in hand with my mom, his first legal steps into the US- such an anti-climactic end to a loooong journey....

I say celebrate this momentous occassion- and your husband shouldn't be embarrassed- he took responsibility and righted his 'wrongs' and once that visa is in his hand, it's a clean slate.

Waiting to send an official 'congrats'......!

Those are some great ideas! I'm also planning on doing a party. My mom has already said that it is going to be at her house. She's already making plans on who we should invite and everything!
I love this... talking positive and talking about his return instead of thinking negative thoughts. :D

omg that is so cool.. I don't think we could do a big party I think he would just feel awkward since most of the family/friends are all legal already .. But I can make a mini-version I guess.. hmm.....

I am not telling anyone, not even my parents, that she was approved....just gonna slip her in and take her over to my parents one night and say, "surprise."

I probably won't be able to do that since we have kids. Everyone will be freaking out/happy and I'll need people to watch them since I was thinking about going to the open appt. (if it happens :)

Did anyone do anything special for their spouses? I've heard clean the house but that isn't very exciting but I'm sure I'll do that too :)

Obviously...haven't had it yet, but I want to have a big party and invite everyone who has been so supportive for the past year plus in helping us get through this. I love the green theme. I had thought about doing a Mexican American theme...half traditional mexican food, half traditional american food and ditto in the decorations and activities. It bouncey house AND pinata for the kids, both flags, etc. I don't know what we'll actually pull off when it happens though...We might be too poor for anything big. It is fun to think about though!
