View Full Version : Anybody a nurse?
I need to ask a nurse a question...
My extremities keep falling asleep on me. I wake up and my back, my legs, my arm will be asleep. And I get cramps in my feet. It is like 110 degrees here in AZ and I'm constantly wearing socks to keep my feet warm, otherwise they hurt like crazy. Also, I've been getting really bad tension headaches. The only way it is relieved is by having my husband squeeze my head LOL. I want to make an appointment, but don't know if its worth it to go for this. I don't want to sound like a baby after she tells me its nothing to worry about.

I am not a nurse, but it does sound like something is out of alignment in your back or neck...sounds painful

or a circulation problem.
I keep thinking its going to go away on it own... do you all think I should make an appointment. I tend to stay away from the doctor unless I really have to go. :shy:

I am a nurse and I hope that this helps. It could be so many different things. Some of the things I would ask you is how much stress are you under? Do you have the numbness only after lying or sitting? Do the headaches come with the numbness or are they persistent regardless of the numbness?
I think you should make an appointment with a neurologist. The first thing I thought of was MS when you stated your symptoms but there are so many things it could be including something as simple as pinched nerves. But, I would definitely start with a neurologist. I don't know your situation in regards to insurance but if you don't have any usually the state/county supported hospital in your area will have neurology clinics and will charge based on your income.
If he clears you then try a cardiologist or whomever of course he refers you to but I would not let it persist before seeking help. Even something like a pinched nerve could turn chronic without attention.
Keep us informed and I hope you get to feeling better.

I would also like to add that a chiropractor may be able to help alleviate some symptoms depending on the cause, but I agree that you should probably see a "normal" doctor first versus an "alternative medicine" doctor like a chiropractor. If it is something neurological, it's important to have it managed as soon as possible. I have an excellent chiropractor and he helped me walk again so I totally trust in chiropractic medicine, but there are some things that need deeper intervention.

Im not a doctor but it sounds like to me that its a poor blood circulation problem. A chiropractor wouldnt help if your leg keeps falling asleep and you feel cramps. Hmm I have a question..it might be personal so ill pm you.

I am under some stress right now, just regarding this whole process and an upcoming surgery I have, and just school. I have the numbness, as far as I can tell, only after lying or sitting. The headaches are persistent regardless of the numbness.
The problem with my insurance is that I am not sure if I am covered right now. They sent me a letter last week stating that if I didn't pay by the next day they would terminate my insurance. There was no way I could get them their payment the next day. I filed in appeal and now I have to wait 5-7 days. I guess I will wait to make an appointment tomorrow with a little clinic that doesn't require insurance or wait until I hear an answer for my appeal.
Thank you. It did help. MS sounds scary, lets hope its not that!
it could even be dehydration.....you need to suck down a lot of fluids, and go see a doc

Gabi,
Stress presents itself in so many forms so it could very well be associated with that.
I didn't mean to scare you with the MS comment it was just the first thing that came to my head. I'm sorry if I did scare you. :o
Even if you don't have insurance utilize your public hospitals. It does take time to get the appointment but one thing I have noticed is that they are new physicians who have tenured doctors overseeing them. What I like about that is they have fresh minds and go the distance to find out exactly what is wrong with you.
Once I was having heart palpitations while I was in nursing school and I used these services. They ordered an EKG, halter monitor, chest x-ray, MRI, pulmonary function tests, Echocardiogram, etc. etc. We eventually narrowed it down to stress. But, at least I was able to rule out all the other possibilities.
Either way please get it checked out and use whatever form of medicine makes you comfortable but if price is the concern for who you choose then please go to a local facility that will help you financially.

Any news?
Yours so nice... thanks for asking!
I decided to wait a couple days to see if they approve my appeal. If they do then I will have health insurance if not then I will take it into my own hands. I'll keep you updated once I hear back. Thanks!
