So, my DH got his greencard in '05 after going through that disgusting I-601 mess (this was before the pilot program- so he spent 6 months in Mexico)

Well, we are ready to go back and visit and show off our 5 yr old again and let his family meet our new twins. BUT my ENTIRE family is wanting to come with us!!! So, about 11 of us are going to be traveling to Mexico. DH's family lives in Mexico City. Our plans are to travel to a few places in Mexico for the first week and then the 2nd week my family is coming back to the US and we are going to stay in DF with his family.

I'd love to take my family to Taxco (I SOOOO want to move there when we are old and retire!)....any other suggestions around that area? We're going next summer. Thanks!

Wow... Eleven people!!!! That is sort of my worst nightmare.. but that's mainly because I am very independent when I travel. I don't like constraints and I don't like having to eat or do certain things because other people aren't adventurous or whatever. :dramaq:, right?

Anyway, I would suggest Puebla city as well, but if you only have one week, I'm sure you could occupy yourself seeing the sites in Mexico city (museums, the Cathedral, Teotihuacan, etc) plus a day or two in Taxco. I haven't been to Taxco and would like to go sometime. Please post photos if you can!

For more Mexico travel information I like the thorntree.lonelyplanet.com Mexico board. It's doesn't have the best search but you can try it. There are good trip reports from Mexico city there.

I have nothing to add regarding places to visit just that I remember you from back in the day…we went through the 601 mess in 2005 too. Great to hear from you and congrats on the twins! I hope all continues to go well and that you enjoy your trip to Mexico next summer. Will this be the first time you’ve gone since 2005?

yeah, DH was there May-Oct '05 DD (who was 2 then) and I were there with my sister (who watched her while we were at the consulate) in Juarez and then DF for 2 wks in May and then DD and I went back in Sept for an entire month. best times of our lives-once we knew we were approved anyway!

My pics from Taxco are the old kind- you know paper. but I need to scan them in anyway- most gorgeous/quaint place I have ever been! Can't wait to go back.

What about Cuernavaca? It is on my list of places to see and is not far from DF. During my first trip to Mexico we went for a day to a place called Zacatlan (I think that is right?) It was a day trip from Mexico City. I was miserably pregnant at the time and was leaving my husband and kids in Mexico for an unknown ammount of time, so I don't remember exactly where it was. But, even with being so miserable, I LOVED it.

If you want to go to Taxco, be prepared to be search numerous times between Mexico City and Taxco. The military has numerous road blocks in Guerrero. My MIL is from Taxco. It is very beautiful!

Manzanillo, Colima and Colima City, Colima are both nice places to visit. Manzanillo is a beach area, but it's not as party-oriented as other beach areas. It's more laid-back. Colima has a volcano and a lot of cute little surrounding villages.

In Guadalajara there's Tonala. I was really impressed with Tonala. Streets and streets of craftsmen selling thier work. Hand carved furniture, hand painted porceline. I saw this beautiful dining set that was hand-carved with tulips in the chairs and table. I wanted it soooo bad. But I didn't have the money or the room in my suitcase for it. LOL

We have a lot in Mexico and someday we're going to build a little house there, and I want to furnish it with some beautiful stuff from Tonala.
