Wow, my brother wanted to drive, but it's too many hours of drive time, I'm assuming you and your hubby will drive right? I know flying is so expensive!! I'm flying from Ontario and hubby from Tijuana, that's the plan for now!! I think Guadalajara is more drive time!

I'm expecting about 11 or 12 hours of drive time from Hesperia, CA to El Paso (and then Alfredo can drive us into CDJ)... Someone else on the sight drove from San Diego to CDJ and it took about 11 hours I think... I will be doing all the driving (and setting cruise control so I don't speed!) and will probably have to take a couple of potty breaks along the way! It's going to be a long drive, but for the amount of $ for airline tickets it will work out OK... We talked about flying out of Ontario, but since hubby doesn't have a visa I was worried they'd check and stop him - and then we were going to drive to TJ and fly from there... but still with the money and drive time to do that - might as well just drive all the way!

Tammy, with the gas so high!! WOW, for you and Viri!!! I'm playing to drop off hubby at TJ airport or at his gradma house and have him go by himself, since I will be in school and then I will fly from Ontario and have him pick me up at the border!! I can't drive it too far and tiring!! But good for you guys. You will save a lot!!!

Tell me about it! The truck we drive takes DEISEL! I can't believe I was happy to see that the price went back down to $4.95 per gallon today... at least we'll get good gas mileage... right?

I can't tell you exactly to GDL, but just as close. We drove from CDJ to LAgos De Moreno, about 2.5 hours from GDL and it took us 17 hours. So I would say around 20 hours to GDL because to actually get to Lagos you have to get off the autopista which takes a while.
We took autopista the whole way there, yes it is more expensive, but cheaper and above all safety.. which for us spending the extra money is worth all the safety in the world. We spent about $88 USD on all the autopistas, that is one way. If you have any more questions, ask me.. it's a long drive but we loved having our car with us in MExico.
We bought a map at wal-mart in the back there was a map of MExico and believe it or not helped us make our way. Of course it doesn't show any little roads, but shows the autopista to get there.

@caroline.olivares Could you ask your father which route to D.F. is safest to drive a vehicle, from Laredo or CDJ to D.F.? Which has the most or longest toll road? Is the drive south from CDJ more mountainous? I need the safest route because we're in two vehicles with one pull-along cargo trailer and don't need any hassle from undesirables that see our U.S. plates. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you. I'll be looking forward to it whenver you get to speak with him. I really need some input on this. We first planned to go through Laredo with the vehicles, drop off in D.F., then go to CDJ. Now we're thinking it's less expensive just going through CDJ first and then onward to D.F. but I'm getting some ill feelings about going through CDJ. Maybe it's because BIL always has gone through Laredo and he suggested the same. But the only reason he said it was in reference to the mountainous area. But I want to be on the route, as I mentioned in other post, with the most/longest/safest toll roads. I'm really getting concerned about this especially after I watched Hannity and whatever on Fox last night. Across border in U.S. they started pushing a car off the road and taking the person for ransom, in the U.S.! (This was primarily those smugglers.) But I don't want to be on a road and get robbed, abducted or anything worse, God forbid.

What about busing to GDL? That would be cheaper and way more relaxing. If you could bus overnight you could sleep. The first-class buses are nice and comfortable.

I agree with you they are also cheaper and you can relax and sleep. My brother took a bus from TJ to CDJ and it was about $80 each!!
