My friend entered the country in Brownsville, Texas in July of 1987. He says that he filed papers and there and was given a 14 day visa. The visa was limited and required him to report to immigration authorities for further processing in New York City before the end of the 14 days. He did not report and has remained in the US since that time. I am not able to find any references to the type of visa or process that he was in. Can anyone here give me any information that would help me identify this process/visa type?

He has lost that paperwork. Would be the immigration authorities in Brownsville still have a record of this entry? If so, how would I help him retrieve it? He married a USC two years ago and is now interested in becoming legal.

Thanks for your help. This is a wonderful forum.

My MIL entered on a similar visa her's was a B1/B2 Visa only good for 14 days he had a "Humanitarian" stamp on it as that was the purpose of the visit (husband was very sick here in USA), anyway, she was to apply for an extension before the 14 days were up but we didn't so she is a Visa Overstay on a B1/B2. I don't know if this helps but good luck.

He can file a FOIA. This would give him pretty much everything immigration has on him. The only downfall is that it takes a long time to receive the FOIA.
