Driver license

My license expires in 1 month and I was wondering can I get it renewed this week by using my 797c (NOA1) as this is the only paperwork I have. Has anyone done this?

It depends on the DMV, you should call them and ask...every DMV is different

yeah...you gotta call around in NC....I know Charlotte won't issue with NOA1 or NOA2, Gastonia will issue with NOA2; don't know about the other cities.

well I went to one particular dmv today and they told me that I needed a social card and my current drivers license and they were not bending at all so I just gave up and came home.

Are you crazy! Don't give up!!!! Go here --> http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/office_locations/?officeType=5&pickCounty=402 and ask if they will renew a license with the 797c. If they say no, hang up and call another one. That is what I did till I found one that would take the 797....(but only the approved one)

Thank you so I took your advice and called all of the dmv's well I got a different answer from all of them. Bottom line was you need your social security card in hand. So I went to the social security office and tried with all my might. No luck! The social security office told me to come back when I get my greencard or ead. So Im trying to keep my fingers crossed that my biometrics appointment letter comes this week so I can do my fingerprinting next week and have my ead before my license expires.......

Oh hun -- a lot of people are in the same boat as you. But don't worry and have faith in god.

First off -- the USICS time line is unpredictable so don't get your expectations up. It will happen though....but no one can say WHEN.

I have a Drivers license and have had no job because I was waiting on my EAD card (which took 6 months to arrive after my fingerprint appointment).

I know people that have a job but no drivers license.

Just live the best life you can with what you have right now.

And does anyone know what you have to bring to get your license? Liek can you take your EAD and Social Security Card only? Or do you have to take something else for ID proof? The passport is out of the question for us because he is an overstay adjusting... so the passport is expired, he's never had any kind of ID here in the US, and his birth certificate is foriegn so they wouldn't want it....

We had to use his Shot record from school with his picture on it (US high school) when we applied for his social security card.... Maybe DL will take that too!

What did everyone else take?
