For those of you who have had interviews in Guatemala, did you have trouble obtaining a copy of your police certificate. I found under the State Department website and another website also, that there are countries (including Mexico) who WILL NOT give police certificates as they are not available.

This is the language I found:

Police certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16 years or over for each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year. Generally, application for such certificates should be made directly to police authorities in the district in which you resided. If you have any questions about where or how to apply for police certificates in other countries, you may communicate directly with the U.S. consular office processing your visa applications.

Do not attempt to obtain police certificates covering residence in any of the following countries, as they are not available:
Afghanistan* Ghana Malaysia* Sudan
Angola* Guatemala* Mexico Syria*
Azerbaijan* Haiti* Mongolia Tajikistan
Bangladesh* Honduras* Nepal* Thailand*
Bulgaria* Indonesia Nicaragua* Turkey*
Cambodia Iran* Pakistan* United States of America
Chad Iraq* Saudi Arabia* Ubekistan*
Colombia* Kazakhstan Sierra Leone Venezuela*
Costa Rica* Laos* Somalia* Vietnam*
Equatorial Guinea* Libya Sri Lanka

Hi, Maybe this info is out-of-date, because my fiance was able to obtain a certificate/record (I don't believe there is a difference) from Honduras. He had to go to DGIC headquarters (in the capital (Tegucigalpa) and wait a few days.

I was able to locate this information because someone else provided me with a link to find this info. If I can locate it, I'll post it.

I was able to find this though: http://www.infocubic.net/International/guatemala.htm for Guatemala Available. Application should be made by the applicant in person to Police Headquarters (Direccion General de la Policia Nacional).

Thank Aguafria. This is very helpful as the information I obtained from the State Department website was very confusing.

It is relatively easy to obtain police records in Guatemala as they are needed for most job applications. We have been trying to obtain my husband's police record in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, but the computer system is down. Going to the capital is the most reliable way to get it.

Thank you. I was able to find out some information. I know you have to go in person and request it. Thanks for your help.

Guatemalawaiver: I assume you are going through Guatemala. Where are you in the process?

April 10, 2007-I-130 filed
April 11, 2007-I-130 approved
July 2007-my husband picked up his packet 3
September 2007-we submitted his DS-230(Part 1) and Declaracion de solicitante

We filed our petition DCF in Guatemala (direct consular filing) as my husband and I have been living together in Guatemala for more than a year-this seems to be much faster. We will now wait for the interview to be scheduled. I think this whole process is slightly different when you file directly with an Embassy.
