Add chicken broth and spices to a pot and bring up to a boil. Once it is boiling reduce heat to a low boil and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often until spices dissolve. In the meantime, mix the water and 1tbsp of flour at a time together with a wisk making sure there are no lumps. After spices have dissolved wisk flour/water mixture into sauce to thicken. Turn heat off and let it sit till you are ready to use.

I found this recipe online and tried it the other night. It was fantastic but a little too thick for my liking so I increased the chicken broth to about 3 1/2 cups. Hubby loved it too.

How much of a hot, spicy bite does it have? This sounds good but I'd want it to be hot. I've used the Bueno brand red chili pepper powder (from New Mexico) to make a like a rue, and then add more water and we use that like a sauce. The Bueno brand could probably be used in place of the Gebhardt (never heard of that, is it hot or just sort of?).

It isn't hot at all which is the way I prefer it so if you want hot then try using a mexican chili powder or the Bueno brand. You don't have to use the exact same chili powder and you could tweak the spices anyway you like.
