Guatemala is a whole lot differenct then Mexico. Guatemala also has to have criminal records from the country if they left after thier 16th birthday etc etc etc.

Puerto Barrios, Santo Tomas de Castilla My hubby looks asian most of the GUAs are on the West Side so they are darker....except Moms son in law...he's light but I think he's right outside GUA city.
What about yours?

I think kiki man is from Quetzaltenango too...(he looks more Indian). So you're on the west coast....my hubby if from the east.....near the ports, livingston, Rio Dulce area.
of course I'm going! I want to meet my MIL and SILs and BILs....I'm scared crapless...Guatemala city is really dangerous...and I wanted hubby to dress up for his interview but am thinking against it. I'm not going to wear any jewlery except my wedding band, and I have a little spare wallet so if we get robbed (hope to god not) that I have extra closed cards that don't work.

Sooo...I've been to CDJ. I wasn't scared there. Is Guatemala City worse than that?

My hubby tells me about it all the time, they kill women for nothing, they rob people with guns daily...someone here is living in GUA and she told me that you have to be careful. Thankfully my hubby is 4 hrs away from the city so its not bad in rural areas, but the city is something to look out for...

Guatemala can be dangerous, everyone is armed and there is no real law. I'm getting used to it now because I've been there so much. But you do have to stick close to family.

That is all so very sad and scary. I need to talk to Edwin because he's never really told me about the whole femicide thing...

Do you think that its better to be with men though...cause usually women in twos are getting kidnapped....I mean, I'm not going ANYWHERE without my husband.

I think as long as you take safety precautions, you will be fine.
Guatemala is a really nice country and the people are very hospitible. I always have fun when I go there. Yes there bad things there, but you must take it in perspective.
Just stay with your family and you will be fine. I'm going in two weeks, I try and go every three months. Looking forward to it.

Here are some links to sites in Guatemala. They are about the Department of Zacapa where my wife is from, but they show you what is going on there. Some good and some bad.

Also, Prensa Libre is the main online newspaper of Guatemala

Mom is here. Our case was completed on 4/15 and we are still waiting for an interview date. They said we missed the deadline for June so hopefully we will get an appointment in July. Who knows -- there have been people who got an interview date in 2 months and some had to wait 5 months. This whole thing is crazy.

He's from Huehuetenango and often mentions Colotenango which I think is a part of Huehuetenango? He confuses me about where exactly he's from... but yeah he's definitely all Mayan indian :D
