For anybody in Northern California that's interested, the United Farm Workers is going to do a pilgrimage from Lodi to Sacramento in honor of Maria Isabel Vasquez Jimenez. She died on May 16 after passing out after 9 hours of work in a grape vineyard near Stockton. She wasn't taken to the hospital until an hour and a half after she passed out. Her temperature was over 108 degrees by the time she got to the hospital.

The pilgrimage will begin on Sunday in Lodi and will end Wednesday in Sacramento.

I'm glad you are spreading the word. Even though I can not go at least I know who she is now and i can spread the word. This is so sad. I really think it is great that a march is being held in her honor.

There was a story about this on NPR this morning. I tried to find a link but couldn't. They interviewed her fiance who was with her when she died. Apparently Gov. Schwarzenegger actually spoke with him about what happened. So unbelievably sad.

So sad, she was very young. Was she undocumented? I hope this brings new light to the immigration laws. AMNESTY!

Yes, she was undocumented. Here's the link to the United Farm Workers website.

The peregrinacion ended today and I am completely beat!! I have huge oozing blisters on my feet and my legs hurt so bad I can hardly bend them. Saying all that, it was well worth it and I would do it all over again. There were only about 50 of us that actually walked the distance but approximately 600 people joined us at a nearby park and walked to the State Capitol with us. This was a great experience for me and I'm so happy I was able to be there.
