My husband just texted me about this - no reports of any deaths yet, thank God! Here's a link to the BBC story:

Scarey, I am glad no one got hurt. I heard that the airport in Tegus is of the most difficult runways to land on.....I think because it is in a valley.....Take a look here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=txPg4JwimE0).

Yeah, when we flew in the captain told us over the loudspeaker that the landing would be "precarious" because of all the mountains nearby. And it's such a short runway, too. I hope no one is really badly injured.

Update: My husband says so far three people were killed, one of whom was the President of Banco Centro Americano.

WOW! That youtube was NUTS! I think I may have to fly into San Pedro Sula for all of my trips there. My prayers are with the victims and their families...

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing! I knew it was scarey flying in there, but after seeing that video, I'd rather take a bus from San Pedro. But my hubby said he heard that the airport is closed now until they improve the runway.

Hubby told me never to fly into Tegus. It is a very scary runway. He was so scared when he went home. My OBGYN goes to different places in Honduras as a missionary and tries to get flights to San Pedro instead because it scares him too. When it rains in Honduras -it rains-and that is scary to land in -you cannot see a thing. That happened to us one night going into San Pedro. My prayers are with those families.

This is very sad. Hopefully, it will prompt some changes. When I visited, I flew to Tegu. I was warned that the landing would be abrupt and a little scary. I wasn't too worried and fortunately it was pretty smooth.
