Yes. You have to definitely submit your marriage certificate, a certified copy, and either a copy of your birth certificate and/or passport. You also need to submit other documentation. Please go to uscis.gov and download the instructions for the I-130 and it will tell you everything that you need to submit, including proof that you have a "marriage."

more documents you submit than better, they would proccess faster and you wouldnt have to go through interview. I had a really good lawyer, who made me collcect everything we could( even card from flowers he sent me), bank statements, insurance statements, phone, electric bills, any mail with our names together on it,million of pictures, copy of SS, drivers licenses and all other stuff

Here is a list of what is needed.

1. The I-130 application
2. 4 copies of the G-325A for you with original signatures
3. 4 copies of the G325A for your spouse with original signatures
4. 1 passport type photo of you and one of your spouse
5. a copy of the USC's birth certificate front and back
6. a copy of your marriage license front and back
7. Anything to prove the marriage is bona fide
Example - Bills, copy of joint checking account statement, affidavits from family, proof of travel together, etc.

yeah, in addition to joint bank statements and credit card statements, i sent a TON of personal photos of us together that were evidently from over a significant time period--like one when i used to have bangs and one now that they've grown out, another on the beach, another in santa hats and long sleeves, etc.

In regards to photos - our lawyer suggest that we try to find ones that not only depict us as a couple - but with other people as well....

for example - family pictures of us at xmas time with my sister, at birthdays, family reunions, etc...it is - in her opinion - it showed a stronger bond between us because he is integrated into my family - and I am with him and his friends, etc....

And yes, vacation pictures of you both are good too!!

Just another suggestion!

i printed mine (about 40 of them) on regular paper with a color printer, several to a page. that way, since they were already on 8.5x11 paper, i just bound it together with the rest of the packet.

in regards to pictures - we only sent about 10 of them - all with various dates. All ranging throughout our dating/marriage. There were about 3 copied onto a page - and a little description was underneath each one - stating who was in the picture, what was the occasion (if any) and the year.

Looking back - if I had filed it - and not had it done by a lawyer - I probably would have actually printed labels or something out instead of 'handwriting' underneath each one. To me, it would be more professional looking, but I just agreed to what she did when she filled it out, not really thinking about it.

In the list of evidence proving our marriage, the pictures were the very last thing in our packet. All other 'important' documentation was put first.

I hope that helps!

I have pictures but they do not have date on them what should I do???

I think it might be an issue see.
Im 18 yrs hes 26 We got married april 6, 2007.
We met when I was barely 14 yrs through family members. I started
going out with him when I was like 15, but with my parents approval!!
My parents knows his family in mexico and my brother and sister knows his brothers
and sisters as well.
Would this affect his approval???
im really scared to file for him at this point. I don't want to lose him.

The pictures are not required to be dated.

Our pictures were not actually 'dated' either. What I meant by that statement I made was that I made sure to send some from various stages in our relationships. Based on the photo - I was able to guess the month/year they were taken and just wrote to the side of the photos the date of them. To more or less show then length of our relationship and that not all were in the past few months.

I would not see that as being a problem for you nancyjm. They occasionally will look more in depth to the validity of a relationship if there is a SIGNIFICANT age difference - but I would think that the 8 years between you is not considered that significant. Just my opinion.

The I130 approval just confirms that there is in fact a valid, bona fide, legitimate relationship. It does not issue a visa or give permanent status to the beneficiary. As long as the evidence shows your relationship is real - and valid - then there shouldnt be any problems!!

That's strange, because we didn't submit any photos (other than the passport photos) or bills or bank statements to prove our marriage, but our I-130 was approved. We just had birth certificate and marriage certificate, etc. I figured the bills, bank statements and photos we would submit at the interview. Did we just get really really lucky?
