Hi. I just wanted to know if there is anyone out there who has gone through the visa and waiver application process through the Vancouver consulate? Also where would the waiver be processed, in the vancouver consulate or is it sent to another office. I am just in the the process of sibmitting my application for both my visa and waiver and i want to know what kind of timeline i am looking at to get them approved. My fiance and I want to get married in Feb 20/2009 and so we wanted an idea as to how long it would take for us.
Any help would be great!
Thank you.

Are you applying for a fiancé visa? I think you may have to be married to apply for the waivers (I could be totally wrong) BUT I know part of the waiver is you must prove "hardship" on your US spouse.
What waivers do you need? I-601 & I-212? I know I had to have my interview in Montreal and then we were told my visa was denied. We were able to submit our waivers the same day and they were sent off to Vermont for processing. I live in BC very close to Vancouver but had to go to Montreal as they are the only consulate that processes / handles cases like ours.
I hope another member will be more helpful.
GOOD LUCK!!

All of the Canadian waivers go through Vermont. You ARE eligible as a fiance.
The waivers through Vermont are variable but seem to take close to a year. There have been a couple of approvals lately, you might benefit from browsing through their timelines. This is all based on a 601, what waiver(s) do you have to file? and Have you already gotten an approved 129-F?

No, that's not true. U.S. citizen fiances, spouses and parents are all qualifying relatives for the I-601 and I-212 waiver. You can do a K-1 if you need a waiver. It's the same basic process for the waiver as being married.

Hi, we file for our fiance petition in Nov of 2007 and we got approved on Mar 18/08. We do have a lawyer working on our case as well. Yes we are writing a hardship letter so we are doing the l-601 waiver. We are in the process of getting the documents ready so we can set up the interview. I am from edmonton, alberta and my case will be handled in Vancouver. My question is do all waivers get processed in Vermont or would it be different since i'm applying for a K1 visa and a l-601 waiver. I have read in other blogs that waivers that are processed in vancouver go right across the border to washington state and could be processed there.
Any help would help. Thank you

All Canadian 601's are handled by Vermont, read Laurel's info page here:

We have not submitted our Visa application but I have gone through the I-194 waiver process for the past few years. They have been issued for humanitarian reasons.
My first few waivers were mailed in to Minnesota, after receiving an invitation to have my finger prints taken at the US border (Truck Crossing).
My last two waivers were submitted at YVR and paid for at YVR (complete with finger prints taken at Vancouver International Airport) - my current waiver is still being processed. That was Dec 17, 2007. My last waiver expired March 31, 2008.
Normally I have had a waiver each year without having any gaps between. Currently I am experiencing a gap and its frustrating :shy: to say the least. Not being able to dart across for some shopping, some loving or to see friends & family bites! I am hoping that they are working on giving me amnesty for my past mistakes.
My waiver was sent from YVR to Vermont. This is new. I have not found any reason as to why they restructured.
Depending on how the Visa application goes, will determine how and when or if, we need to apply for a I601 waiver for me.
I do plan on keeping this board and the VJ board updated on my situation.
Good luck to you and please, keep us posted on your events. :cheerful:
Not sure if this gives you any more insight into submitting waivers. I hear each one use to be submitted to different places, but now they are all processed at the Vermont office.

Hi, how are you? My question is that we are in the process of submitting our K1 visa application and our waiver application to the vancouver consulate. I have no idea what timeline we are looking at.
I know no one can give me a definite answer but anything would help. Also will the waiver be processed in vermont? is it true that there service is quite slow?
Do you know of anyone who has gone through the vancouver consulate for their waiver and what approximate timeline it took for them to get approved. Any info would be great. Thanks

I am so sorry that I just do not have any information for you. There are the only two filers that I have recorded for this year. They are both still waiting. As I recall, most everyone who has had to go through here has taken quite some time. I wish I had better news.

Also any updates on cases of l-601's that have gone through vancouver?

It shouldn't take that long. . .since it's a k3, though we don't have a lot of people going through Vancouver Consulate. . .I'd check the K3 section on VisaJourney. . .there might be a few more there. We're better for the 601, but they have a sections tracking a lot of Canadian k3's

For the interview, about the same amount of time, they are treated the same at the NVC.

Hello, a quick question, does it matter which consulate you go through? I see that in this forum a lot of people go through the Montreal consulate and only a few go through the vancouver consulate, any idea as to why?
Thanks!

I had my interview at the Vancouver Consulate. I am from BC. I also know someone that had to go to Montreal. It was because he was a Denmark citizen that came to Canada then moved to the states on a K3 visa.
My process from the time I came on a K1-Visa to my 10 year permanent residency, it took nearly 4 years.

Montreal is the only consulate that handles the CR-1/IR-1 spousal visas in Canada. Vancouver handles the "Non-immigrant" and K visas only.

Would I be able to have my I601 waiver processed through Vancouver & Vermont?
I am not sure if I will need a I601 - but I know that flying to Montreal is not cheap.
Does my US fiance have to attend any of my interviews?
When my paper work starts to flow, I will be sure to post updates.

Hi, my question is" is their a difference in the timeline if you are applying for a waiver in county or out of the country"?
I am in canada, applying for a l-601 waiver for entering the USA. I will be going for my interview on Sept 24th/08.
Anyone know of anybody who has gone through the waiver process through the vancouver consulate on a K1 visa?
Any information would be so appreciated.
Thanks
