What a great sticky idea!!! I hope some of you have experiences to share!

For those of you who are familiar with La Gringa's Blogicito, she has a yahoo group called "Honduras Living." There, I have gotten some reallllly good information about hotels and lodging from the ex-pats.

We live in Florida and my husband went to the consulate in Miami. He did NOT have a cedula (Honduran ID) but he was able to renew it there and have it expedited. We went on a Friday and he had the renewed passport by the next Friday!

At the one in DC my husband also paid for expedited but we only had to wait a few hours and it was ready.

When I went for our interview we stayed at the Marriott: Tegucigalpa (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/tgumc-tegucigalpa-marriott-hotel)! It was a very nice hotal and about a 10 minute drive from/to the Toncontin International Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toncont%C3%ADn_International_Airport).

This particular hotel is next door to the presidential palace. And is about 5 minutes (not even) to the MultiPlaza. It is about a 10 minute ride to the US Embassy (http://honduras.usembassy.gov/english/index_e1.htm).

I will be posting more hotels also!

There is also the Intercontinental (http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations/overview/tegucigalpa), which was directly across the street from the MultiPlaza.

I recommend the Apartanon (sp?) if you will be visiting La Ceiba. It's right on the ocean and has a nice pool. We paid about $30 per night.

Wow! This is awesome! I can't wait to get home so I can click on those links and check 'em out (at work right now... BLOCKED)

I will be staying mostly around Tocoa & Trujillo.... probably mainly at Trujillo because hubby says it's safer than Tocoa. I am hoping we will only have to stay in Tegucigalpa for 1 or 2 nights.

In Trujillo, we will stay at the Christopher Columbus for a couple nights. I think it equates to like $50 per night... and I hate spending even THAT much, but hubby used to go in there all the time when he was a police officer, and he always dreamed of what it would be like to stay there. He never in his wildest imagination thought he would actually GET to be a guest some day! The rest of the time, we will stay at the Hotel Brinkley, which is like $25 per night. I saw pictures online and fell in love. I will post some later when I am at home and stuff is not blocked.

We stayed at Hotel Granada #4.

We paid $36 a night. It's about a 5 minute drive to the embassy.

Perks:

$36 a night for single queen size bed
5 minute drive to the embassy
short drive to a mall (with movie theatre inside)
Hotel only a few months old (so nice furniture, clean, nice bathroom)
Wireless internet and 2 public computers (if you don't have a laptop)
Cable TV
Pool table
Foozball (sp?) table
a really good breakfast restaurant across the street

Drawbacks:

You can hear the outdoor's noise really strongly. Lots and lots of honking.
No restaurant inside the hotel and no pool

Highly recommended. You get a lot for the price. There are 4 hotel Granadas, but make sure you look for Granada #4.

Any taxi driver will know where it is.
Edit:
For San Pedro Sula:

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Sula.

Perks:
Free Wireless internet
Cable TV (flat panel tv)
Bar & Restaurant inside
Nice Pool
Souvenir/Gift shop
Fridge/microwave in rooms
King size bed
Balcony
Across the street from the town plaza
Lots of places to eat close by
Lots going on around the area
Market place 5 minute drive (or less)

Drawbacks:
Paid $105 per night (kinda expensive)
Hotel is old... needs renovation big time

Recommended, if you can afford to pay that price! Good for a couple of nights, not long term stay.
