Taking Too Long In Accra Ghana.

Hello Everybody. I was wondering why our waiver is taking too long to be adjudicated in Accra. It has been over 18 months now. I called Accra , I was told that our waiver is pending. That was about one month ago.
My Senators office Faxed my medical documents to Accra. They claimed that they don't have it. I have mailed copies to Accra, when I called , I was told that they don't have it.
I read other members time line. It normally takes about 8 months in Accra. What is wrong with ours?

Ask the senator that has helped you in the past if (s)he will do an inquirey for you. If the senator faxed something to them and they say they did not get it, the senator needs to find out why. Engage your senator and encourage him to find out for you what is happening. That is really all that you can do. When you send things to them make sure that they have to sign for them so that you have proof that they got them.

18 months is extreme for any consulate.

Thanks for your input. I have tried all of that. The Senators office here in NC are very reluctant to help. I did call Rome. That's how I got the little information. I am even considering travelling to Ghana.

If your waiver is in Rome, then traveling to Ghana will not do you any good. Two totally different departments.


Just smack me if you have already tried all of the elected officials and I am sure that you have. But, if you have not you need to contact both US senators, and also your US representative. I would not take no for an answer.

I would contact all 3 of these individuals ASAP and fill out all of the forms that you need to for constituent services and tell them your complete story and how it is taking 18 months.

Then I would also contact all of the local newspapers and radio stations in your area and tell them your story.

Find a way to get your story out there.

Approach it from the point of view that you are following all of the laws that congress has passed so that you can become legal and you need some help in understanding why you cannot get the process to work.

I would not blame anyone but just get your story out to as many people as possible as quickly as you can and ask someone to help you. Best of luck. I wish there were more that I could help you with.

When was your case transferred to Rome? Have they told you why it is taking so long? Do you have a lot of aggravating factors? Are you stuck in background fingerprint checks?

Your other options is to do a consult with Laurel Scott for $150 and see if she has any other ideas for you.

You are welcome. I think your best chance of getting an answer is for the senator's office to make an inquirey for you. They have to respond to the senators.

Hello! I think that Accra has a new chief officer; therefore, waivers are not being adjudicated in Rome anymore. I'm not sure what country you are from, but maybe it would be helpful for you to get your medical records there in person or at least DHL with a return receipt, so that you have proof that they received it. I do think the best way to get through is through your senator's liason--just as you have been trying to do. Please keep us posted and wishing you the best. What country are you and your wife from? Do you think that your wife was put under Administrative Processing? Maybe if we have some background we could help a little more.

Thank you Sunnysol. I am in the United States. My wife is in Nigeria.I don't know if my wife is in Administrative Processing.How do I find out? I know that It has been too long now. We filed in December of 06.Accra received our file in Febuary of 07.The last time I called Accra, I was told that her file is pending...

I'm pretty sure that they would tell you, I believe the code is 221(g). Hopefully someone else can help out who has been backlogged for further name, fingerprint investigation. Perhaps you can just call and ask. I still think that once your senator's liason does in inquiry, you should see some resolution. That is way too long! Best of luck! Let us know what you find out.
