I don't know if it is amemia or not which is causing my sleepyness but the doctor doesn't seem to know (i am uping green vegetable and red meat intake to boost iron). I will have just woken up and I sit down at a meeting or at teh computer at work and nod off, I even fell asleep between begining to "sup" and actually swallowing water. What the?? Any (zzzzz) suggestions (zzzz) would be (zzzz) helpful (zzz). Thanks guys.

That's not good! Take a daily vitamin. Ginseng is very good for energy, and vitamin B12. Also, make sure you are getting enough sunshine:)

I would say depression and prolly your exausted. I was feeling that way alot and then when I got back from mexico I had went to pic up some meds and the pharmacy suggested a prenatal vitamin you don't have to be wanting to get pregnant to take them, I take them and they give me that boost.

Jancy, that's a pretty serious symptom and sounds more like narcolepsy than anemia or stress. I would get yourself to a specialist - pronto!
The main characteristic of narcolepsy is overwhelming excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), even after adequate night time sleep. A person with narcolepsy is likely to become drowsy or to fall asleep, often at inappropriate times and places. Daytime naps may occur without warning and may be physically irresistible

I was thinking the same thing...this sounds a bit more serious than normal fatigue or stress. You should definitely try to see a Doctor soon.

Well that is what I was thinking was Narcolepsy and my doctor had me go to a specialist. They put little sticky monitors all over my head and starting running the tests, which consisted of flashing lights and wierd noises. Unfortunately (or not) I have never lost my imagination and so I couldn't help but imagine cartoon type hilarious things with all the stupid noises they did, and started laughing. The guy stopped the test and said I was fine and that because I laughed it would look like I had a seizure to the specialists that would read the report. So I just figured I must be deficient in a nutrient and am scheduling to visit a nutritionist. It is annoying though.

I would see another doctor if that type of "episode" happens to you regularly. It's in no way normal to fall asleep while sipping a drink -- and that kind of symptom is not based on anemia or nutrition.

That is hilarious. Hmmm...so maybe not narcolepsy. That reminds me that apparently there is a teacher at my daughter's school who has it and falls asleep randomly in the middle of class...she's very popular with the kids.

Hey Jancy...have you ever had your thyroid checked? I know when mine is slow is makes me very sleepy and lethargic.

I wish I could be super sleepy right now. Isn't it amazing how everyone's body is different? My dr. prescribed me Lunesta. I don't sleep. I took it for the first time last night and I sleep all night from 9 - 6. It felt so good. She thinks I have to much stress and things on my mind.
Have you had your Dr check your B12 levels? If they are low that could cause sleepiness and they can give you a shot for that.

jancy, are you on any meds for other stuff? when i was on celexa when i was in college, i literally couldn't keep my eyes open if i wasn't standing up-and sometimes even if i was. i'd fall asleep in class after 4 cups of coffee and 2 20-oz diet dr. peppers like i had no caffeine in my system. i could hardly drive my car and i actually fell asleep standing up in the shower. the worst was when i fell asleep while playing the fiddle in my irish fiddle class--i know i was sleeping because i was still playing, but i was dreaming about a golden girls episode where there was a little boy from cuba who was going to be deported, except that he was in the fiddle class with us in my dream (i woke up and blurted all this out to the class because i was so amazed that it had happened.) when i graduated and got my first real job as a high school teacher, i had to stop the celexa. it was debilitating.

Thanks for all your imput. That falling asleep while playing the violen deffinately sounds like me, that is exactly the type of weird "sleepiness" I am experiencing. I am not taking any medications though. Maybe I should . Well I will get some good vitamins and watch my diet and also go to a new doctor to get some new questions answered. I think it is probably a combination of things and you all gave me some good possibilities of this odd behavior. I appreciate all of you so much. I'll try not to fall asleep before I finish this zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
DARN! before I finish this post. THANKS!
