I got my last packet today from NVC! I am in the middle of filling out the form and I don't see where is asks for original birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc. Am I missing something? I typed in the web address it gave me in my letter for instructions, but the address doesn't work. Is there a check list somewhere of stuff I need to send with my DS-230 form?

HI JContreras83,

You can find all the information at : http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Check civil documents for the part with birth certificate, marriage cert, police records and so on.

Good luck with filling it !

You are more than welcome.
I`m happy to help as I was helped through this process by people from this forum !

Feel free to ask any question about DS230, it is a tough form to fill out.
I hope I won`t get a RFE, I have sent my DS230 last week.

Good luck !
Ronko

Ok I know "police certifcate" is not required right? And not even available for Mexico? But on James shortcuts it does say court/police records is that required for all or only for something major ?

I guess it depends on the country as to police records. I needed them (Romania)...

Hey Task-

I asked a lawyer about the police certificate and he said that I need to get these things:

Wa state patrol -Get his background check
Municiple Court -Get certified copy of his records
King County Clerks Office (Court House) -Get certified copy for any and all cases he has been involved with.

Hope that helps. :)

What happened if the alien had never been in trouble?

If the applicant has never been in trouble, than you don't need to send any police reports - at least for Mexico that is. I think different consulates might have different requirements though...

I'm confused!!! I thought I read somewhere that you dont need to provide those records from the time they lived or if they still live in the US. I would think that the reason for that is that this information will come up during the backgrou. Did I read this incorrectly??? Someone please enlighten me.....Thanks!

My husband had warrants and was arrested for not paying traffic tickets. Everything is all cleared up now, but the laywer said that it is important to show proof from those 3 places to show that he has a clean record now.

The lawyer I talked to is an immigration attorney from the city of Seattle so I feel confident that he is giving me correct information, plus it doesn't hurt to have those documents just in case.
