I havent changed my last name nor do I plan to anytime soon. Reasons have to do with all of my assets, and the nightmare I dont want to face at this time. Especially with the title of my house, etc....
Just wondering if anyone else kept their existing last name and if you were questioned at the appointment etc. This is actually not may maiden name but the last name of my ex-husband. Not sure if they will find it strange but I dont want to even begin to go through that process.......It will be a nightmare.........

I haven't changed my last name, and there was no problem at all. We went through CDJ and adjustment of status; however, its my maiden name. It might be different and question you for keeping your ex's last name.
I too have been dreading changing everything (bills, credit cards, insurance, etc)

I didnt think so but wasnt sure. Plus we filed shortly after we got married so there is no way I will change it until this nightmare is over. I definately plan to change it but now is not the right time. I agree it definatley looks kind of weird that I still have my ex's last name. Sadly enough I really like it........LOL!!

Wow, Eddie & Angie I actually had the same question before because I had everything in my ex's last name including my naturalization cert. and my house deed but I went ahead and got everything changed back to my maiden name before applying for hubby (well not my house deed yet but a lawyer advised me not to change that because that could bring me more legal issues and it's not a problem to keep it the way it is anyways). I agree it's a pain to change everything back but I didn't feel comfortable still having my ex's last name and now married to someone else.

I still have my X's last name. NVC has the divorce paper so they know we're divorced.
I don't want my husband's last name nor have it attached to mine - it's too long and causes nothing but problems when clerks and others input his name into a computer. They input it differently in various systems and nothing but a headache trying to pull it up.
Also, all my prior work companies have my present name and I'm changing all of these nor with any other legal documents.
This is 2008 and everybody knows women don't change their last names like they did back in the day.:)

Nineten, Its good to know that I am not the only one in this situation. I love my current last name, it has nothing to do with my ex. I have had it for 18 years. I dont think my current husband will appreciate it if I keep it so out of respect for his I guess I will change it eventually, but it is going to be such a nightmare......Just wanted to see if this would be questionable at the consulate. I guess we will have to see.....Thanks for your comment! Good Luck with your case.
