We are all set to go.......!! I just have one more issue to resolve. It's a little complicated. My husband and I combined our names when we got married.

We started out as
Him: First Middle Apellido1 Apellido2
Me: First Middle LastName

Now in the US we are both First Middle Apellido2-LastName. He has his driver's license, bank accounts, son's birth certificate, everything in the US now under this name. But all of his documents in Mexico including his new passport are under Apellido1 Apellido2. They wouldn't let him change his name on his passport and the guy at the Mexican consulate said that we should change everything back to Apellido1 Apellido2, which obviously we don't want to do (I mean it took us FOREVER to agree on our married last name and we want our names to be the same!). He doesn't have anything official immigration-wise yet, but the DL is real and valid.

Do we use his "maiden" name or married name on our immigration paperwork? I know more people must be in this situation, although probably not too many guys. ;)

I was wondering basically the same thing. Husband has no middle name and two last names, which have been hyphenated on the initial immigration paperwork.

If I change my name, which one do I take: the first (father's) or second (mother's)?

hi guys...
when we first got married i ask the registrars office how things worked since hubby had two last names. I only had to take the paternal one, but for his id and passport he has the two hyphenated, anything official he has the two last names. We were told that once he became legal or a citizen he can change his name and drop a last name (which we both want since we want to have the same last names). As of right now though, it is important that everything matches....

Cherry, im not sure if you have to go back and change the names on the accounts (i dont think so) but for cdj forms and immigration forms you absolutely have to put the name like it shows on the passport. I tried to just put one last name and kept getting rfe for the I-130 until they hand wrote it and hyphenated it for me:shy: you will also have to list other names used, here is where you put the info about any sort of combination he has used in the past.

When they issue the green card it will have the two last names (unless they legally change it before the process) and once they get it, the green card the social security, and everything will have that name. this is probably where you will encounter name match issues....for example, here in california you ss card and dl and everything else has to match or they wont issue the stuff (like dls or ss #)
