Is this the passport that is needed with the I 129F or is a regular U.S passport good enough. Where do we get a Mexican passport. I assume the Mexico Consulate. Who needs one me and my wife. She is the person we are applying for. Any help would be great.

How would you get a US Passport for your wife if she is not a US citizen? She would need a passport from her country...in this case Mexico. Yes you can get it at the Mexican Consulate, call the consulate directly and they will tell you what you need to bring. Also, depending on where you are they may require an appointment to apply for it....and sometimes the wait is long. In Detroit it was over 3 months to get an appointment last summer.

Yes, your wife will need to get her Mexican passport and she can get it at the Mexican consulate. She will need an original birth certificate and a voter registration card or other valid picture ID. If she was registered after six months of age, she will also need additional paperwork. Check her birth certificate to see how much time elapsed between her date of birth and date of registration so you can know ahead of time if she'll have to bring extra paperwork.

Your birth certificate and a government picture I.D. like a driver's license are enough to prove your US citizenship. However, I would strongly recommend that you get a passport for yourself. It is a better proof of citizenship because it has a picture. Also, it's a good thing to have when you are married to a foreigner, because you never know when you might have to leave the country for a family emergency and you cannot leave the country without a passport.
