Guys, anybody knows about the background check time frame, I know I did ask that question before but I am going crazy with the indefinite wait.
I emailed the embassy and they told me to wait…UNTIL WHEN…

I think we posted back and forth about this before. I don't have your answer. Our SAO took 6 months (going through Mexico). I would imagine it would take even longer from other parts of the country. We had absolutely no luck getting it expedited, even with the help of our congressman. So, I feel your pain, but I don't know what to tell you.
Once when I was surfing the web trying to learn more about these background checks I saw information about some applicants starting litigation (I think to the FBI) and that by starting the legal process they actually were able to get them to resolve the background check. What I don't know is if that was for background checks ofr citizenship or for immigration visas...

They can take ANY amount of time. Mine took seven months in Pakistan, and I've heard of them taking up to three years.
The good news is that they recently have started processes to speed these up. . .don't know what that will mean, but it is getting better than it had been.

Has your case been approved yet or are they doing this security check before even making a decision?

I thought the rules changed recently about the background checks.
If after 6 months, and the FBI has still not done it's check, USCIS was supposed to continue the residency process and not wait any more.

ucjdv--
didn't count for those still outside the country. . .however, the plan to expedite checks after six months IS supposed to count for inside or outside the country.

They still aren't making promises for time of wait, even with the new plan, but it is supposed to help.
They never make any promises. I'm sorry.

You can go through your senate or house liaison to get an update/explanation or you can call the 202 number to get updates. They aren't going to tell you much, but they can tell you the soonest if you're out of AP.
There is a thread about the new plan under "advocacy" on this site.

Thanks for the reply, you know what I do not understand is that if my waiver is approved please let me know, and if not approved why even do a background check to begin with....I just do not know...
