Hi All,

I got divorced after my US citizenship interview, I got green card and
citizenship interview based on my job only and NOT from my wife/marriage. She is also greencard holder
but is not citizen, she got green crad through my green crad processing.

My question: how do I inform US government about divorce? what form I should send to?
does this effect my citizenship processing? I already passed my citizenship interview.
The marriage and divorce occured outside USA (in India).

Thanks for your reply.

Seems to me that this is your ex-wifes problem more than it is yours, as long as she has not removed the 2 year condition on her green card yet. If she has already removed the condition, the divorce should not affect her LPR status. And you can't do anything about the affidavit of support, you are still liable - married or not.

As for notifying the government about the divorce, I don't think you have to - but check with a lawyer just in case, since it happend abroad.

I got divorced from my first wife 6 years after getting my green card. She was the USC sponsor. Neither of us notified anyone, other than the normal court filings that are done in a US divorce case. This was not an issue with immigration at all when I went for my citizenship interview. For the record, the marriage was valid.

Congratulations on passing your interview. And sorry about the divorce. It sucks. Been there, done that.
