I am looking for information on about how far it is from CDJ to Monterrey? Or how long it would take to get to Monterrey via bus from CDJ?

We are having a difficult time finding more affordable airfare (less than $800 for 3 people) from CDJ to just about anywhere near Puebla in between our two appts this June.

So -- I was thinking perhaps it would be more affordable if we could take a bus to a more major city (Monterrey - or any other suggestions you might have) and find cheaper airfare ...

We are trying to avoid too lengthy of a bus ride - just because of our 3 yr old travelling with us.

Also - any good suggestions on bus lines??

Ugh...from here to CDJ it's a long ride, I'm not positive the exact, but it'll definitely run past 6 hours I'm sure. The roads don't go very directly. :(

The buses are quite nice, Omnibus de Mexico (http://www.odm.com.mx/) and Grupo Senda (http://www.gruposenda.com/)both have nice and comfortable buses.

A taxi from the airport to the central bus station downtown Monterrey will probably be around $200 pesos. The airport is ridiculously far from everything in this city.

oh but I forgot, some of the bus companies can run right from the airport. sorry.

Thanks losguerra ... do you happen to know if you need 'reservations' on the buses, or can you typically just show up at the bus station?

oh we've always just shown up and had no problem.

Are you positive you can't get decent fares with VivaAerobus? Generally the prices are only slightly more than the bus, especially if you fly on the right days, and with a little one, God knows the plane would be better than an 11-hour bus ride (that seems to be the length of the trip on Omnibus, at least...)

losguerra -

I have looked at vivaaerobus - and from what I can tell - we would need two separate sets of tickets - one from CDJ to MTY - and then from MTY to veracruz I think the times would work out - but for one of the flights we would have a 9 hour layover in Monterrey.

I don't know - this is all giving me a headache! :)

What about flying from CDJ to Mexico City and then catching a bus to wherever you need to get in Puebla. That will probably be a lot cheaper, and you can get a bus to the Capu (~1-2 hours) and then to anywhere in Puebla state.

Where in Puebla are you going?

Lucky, I like Laura's idea...
I hope you can figure this out for less money. Isn't it amazing how the whole budget goes to just travel? When I go see my husband I have to set aside a couple hundred dollars on top of the $5-600 plane ticket just for travel... Blah!
