Okay, everyone should listen to (or read) this. My mom has me listening to it on cd, and even though I'm only on disc 2 it's lovely.
It's sort of a memoir (auto-biography with a few changes aspects), going through a period of loss, and the sort of craziness, confusion, depression that come along with it, and so she goes on a year's journey to Italy, Indonesia and maybe India...
Anyone else read this? I'd love to chat about it with some of you!
JMRJ, maybe you should read it:)

D - I read it about six months ago! I adored it!
First of all, I really like Gilbert's writing style. She's casual, vulnerable, self-deprecating, etc. The book is less about travel and more about personal discovery and faith. I guess it was really a nice read for me because I went through a sort of faith crisis that completely changed who I am and how I live so I really enjoy reading other people's honest, outside-the-box religious experiences.
By the way, I have so many books.. if anyone wants to borrow this I will happily mail it to them. You can get it back to me whenever, or just send it on to someone else when you are done with it. I will probably never read it again but it is a wonderful book.

I'll go to the library and see if they have it there. I can not fit another book in my house. Buying is out of the question.

I have never listened to a book before, but I am so enjoying this. E. Gilbert is the one reading, and she has a really lovely voice and Laura, like you said, has a great way of writing...
Anyway, it's good! Gotta go to class, but I'll be back later! I want to discuss it more!!

Sounds like a very good book.... I will have to add it to my list,
(btw, Laura, do you mail to Mexico?? :bounce: Hee hee, just kidding. I've been going through an English reading material dry spell. The pregnancy/childbirth/child-rearing books just aren't holding my attention anymore :waiting: )

Haha... I would if I could! You can borrow it when you are back in Madison this fall!!!! :)
Where can I get that? How much does it cost? Sounds like it's something that can help me.
...... I just had a breakdown today.....:bluesad:

I read this book on my flight back from my first trip to Mexico to visit my husband and meet the inlaws (last January)...
I couldn't put it down!
I started in Mexico City and read straight through to St. Louis and finished it in the middle of the night.
It was especially meaningful after having been in Mexico.
I've traveled pretty broadly in India and Europe, but contemplating living in Mexico for 10 years is something else!
Anyhow....loved the book!
For those who've read it....
I'm starting a list of all the people (dead or alive) that have signed a my HSL in support of hubby coming home :)

Oh Felix, that's a great, uplifting idea... Make a mental list of people who would sign ours...
JMRJ, check at any bog book store. I think it's pretty popular. And so worth a read!

JMRJ - I will mail you my copy, unless it's stupid expensive to mail something to Hawaii. I don't think I have ever mailed anything there... is it a lot? I am all about book-sharing lately. You could just pass it on when you were done, no need to send it back. Let me know!

For real Laura?!? Oh my goodness, you are Godsend! Domestic rates are the same everywhere. If you could mail it first class, it's a lot cheaper and it will reach here in 5-7 days, not bad.
Are you sure, really?

I like the idea of the travelling book though, that is nice.

One of my BFF just read this and loved it.
Two of my other BFF and I read Annie Freeman's FabulousTraveling Funeral together, even though we live on different coasts and we absolutely loved it.
My copy is in storage or I would definitely send it on.
I don't know if you have to be a bit older to appreciate it or not. But, if anyone is interested, pick it up.
Here is a link with the first chapter:

Ok, maybe one prob. You ladies gonna have to flip a coin I guess... hehehe...
For real I can't believe that's laurafern11 sending me something. Oh, man I'm so honored!
But I don't think I can pay you for the shipping as I promised..... I totaled my car last weekend . The good thing is me and my children are still alive.
I hope this book will give me more courage. I need fuel for my soul.

JMRJ, be CAREFUL!!!! No car crashing! I'm glad you're all ok...
Today on my walk to school I started "India", the second part of the book. My mom said she was bored by this part, but she's not exactly the yoga, spiritual exploration type...
Italy was so lovely to listen to. I just want to go eat all that food!
I want to put my name on the list if noone else is next! I should read it after I listen:) Plus I'd love to put my signature in there with all of you!

Laura

Oh yeah, the Bali part is fantastic.
JMRJ - you got the book, right? :)
Laura ~ I just got the book yesterday. It came days earlier but you know, I don't have transportation due to my car being totaled.
I can't start reading it yet because if I do, I know I won't like to quit. I'm an obsessed reader.
Probably I'll read it on the plane next week. My son is going to have a surgery in 2 weeks.....
And I'm cleaning up my apartment...
Luv you girl.....
Thanks a bunch.
(P.S. I was so excited to see your signature. It's like an autograph. You're a Hot I2us celeb!)

You will be addicted to that book, it's great travel reading though. Enjoy! :)
