I am trying to figure out what hotel to stay at next month. It seems like many people recomend Los Cerdos. But I noticed it is a 10 minute walk to the consulate. I was wondering for those of you who have been to CDJ if the walk from Los Cedros to the consulate is safe especially when my hubby will be probly going there at 6am for his apt. I really just want to pick the safest and most convinient place possible even if it cost a little more.
Also, to book the room at Los Cedros is there a website or do I call them?

We stayed there for a week. I felt safe walking back and forth on my own. I walked with my fiance to his appointments and walked back to wait for him at the hotel. It didn't seem like 10 minutes to me. It is along a side street away from the busy traffic, that some of the other hotels are on. I thought it was convenient and safe, but of course you have to be careful.

By the way, if you use Alfredo...he can get you a discount. We paid $42 per night for the room.

Good info Mishu - thanks.

Just to clarify (and I know its a dumb question) - Alfredo got you the rate by taking you to the hotel from the airport, right? He was not the one who had to make the reservations, right?

I was wondering the same thing?
Do I have to tell Alfredo to make the reservation to get the discount or Do I get the discount if he takes us there?

Hmm, sounds convenient. But, I am a control freak and I know I will be stressed if I dont talk to the hotel people myself to confirm the reservation.
If Alfredo calls and makes the reservation does he give you like a resevation confirmation number or something?

Really ... I am the same way. How crazy to get to CDJ only to find out you don't have reservations ?!? Scary!

We are leaving for CDJ on Sunday. We called Alfredo and he is going to pick us up from the airport to take us to CDJ. He also made the hotel reservations for us, then called us back and gave us a confirmation number. We are going to pay $50/night.

But atleast you got a confirmation number - that is somewhat comforting!! :)

he also gave us a confirmation number and I am a control freak, so I called and confirmed my reservation at the hotel too. I didn't want to get stuck without somewhere to stay...just in case. But everything turned out fine. I think that Alfredo depends on getting a good reputation from this forum, so he goes out of his way to be dependable and trustworthy.

Thought I would point out that the walk from los cedros to the consualte goes by 1 elementary school (right across the street from the hotel), 1 middle/high school (right around the corner), 1 medical training school (like for nurses or EMTs or something), and if you take the short cut, it goes by another school (That one I don't remember what grade level). My point being, the area is safe enough for children to run around and such, so when we were there, it felt pretty safe. Granted, we never went out late at night or anything, but you just use common sense.........
