I think it is a matter of personal choice. I believe the more complicated the case becomes (CIMT, deportations, MISREP, criminal issues) then an attorney would come into play. BUT there have been people with some of the above listed and have done the waiver on their own! Good Luck!!

I successfully did my hubbys waiver for a CIMT. It can be done. Read through the approved letters to get an idea of what you need to focus on in your HSL.

it can be done...but again if you are dealing with CIMT or misrep or anything else funky, i would at least do a consult with one (i.e. with laurel scott www.visacentral.net). if your case is straight-up, no issues, it is totally doable by yourself.

The most important thing is to totally understand the process and the total facts of your case so that you are 100% sure of what you will be charged with and how you need to go about overcoming the charges with waiver(s)before you start the process.
If you are not absolutely sure of these two things than IMHO, you need to do a consult with either Laurel Scott or Heather Poole or a lawyer that they recommend you see.
Although we all have been through this process and can give accurate information, we are not looking at the facts of your case in total and we are not lawyers.
We know for sure that many, many distinguished immigration lawyers know less about this process than we do.
We also know for sure that Laurel and her associates and Heather will give you the correct information and help you form a strategy to deal with your situation.
So, yes, maybe you can do this without a lawyer but you need to have and understand all of the facts before you can make that decision.
Good Luck!
