Hi Ladies!!!
I'm glad you were able to get an update from Klame's husband. I had my mom bring my computer to the hospital but we couldn't get on the internet. I was dying not being able to update you all!
So, the quickest version of the story is that my water broke on Monday morning and I started to have contractions a few hours later but then they just stopped. So, starting on Tuesday morning my midwife had me take castor oil (!!) and some herbs to get them going again. She also sent an acupuncturist over (yes, I'm kind of California hippie-dippie like that :)). Contractions finally started again about 6pm and got pretty serious around 10-11pm. I labored hard all night and was making no progress. They checked me at around 8:30am and I was only 1cm dilated. I thought I was going to die! At that point my midwife said it was time to go to the hospital because my water had been broken for two days and I just wasn't getting anywhere on my own so she thought it was time for pitocin and an epidural. I was upset but really ready to get things going.
So, we all trucked over Cedars Sinai (had a great experience there if anyone in the area ever needs to deliver at a hospital) and they gave me the drugs and we waited a few hours. I was having good, strong, regular contractions but still only 2cm dilated! They decided to wait another couple of hours and check me again but after about an hour the baby's heart rate dropped pretty dramatically and they had me move around in all these different positions to try to bring it back up but nothing was working. I was fairly out of it at this point from all the drugs and had the shakes really bad but all the sudden there were like 20 doctors and nurses in the room all discussing the situation and they decided to wheel me into the OR for a c-section. I was REALLY scared and didn't really understand what was happening cause it was all happening so quickly. From the time everyone came in my room to the time they got the baby out was under five minutes.
Turns out she had the cord wrapped around her neck so tightly she couldn't descend which is why the contractions weren't helping me dilate. And the pitocin was causing such strong contractions that, in combination with the cord situation, the placenta ruptured. All very, very scary but she was fine - they got her out before anything really bad happened. She didn't lose hardly any blood, didn't need oxygen or anything. They observed her for a few hours but she was able to room in with me for our entire stay at the hospital. So, the birth turned out exactly the opposite of what I had planned but the outcome was perfect. Hubby is over the moon, as are las abuelas!! We named her Isabella Eladia. (Hubby 'gave' me the name Isabella for my birthday. If you remember, it was the one I really wanted and he was totally opposed but I broke him!!)
I don't have pictures from anyone yet, but I'll upload mine and post them tomorrow maybe.
Hope all is well with everyone - thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers!
Klame, thanks for updating everyone and congrats on the case complete!!

LSM - I agree w/ Klame. He has a sister and brother here. We assisted them (monetarily) in coming here and spent around 5k for both. The sister sends money back to my MIL and her sons religiously. The brother, can't even bother with a phone call, much less send back $ to support his daughter or anyone else. We send $ regularly to his daughter's grandmother to help with her expenses since she's raising his daughter. My step-daughter's mother however, doesn't send anything (or well very little). Other than that, we don't send $ to anyone unless it's his mother and it's for emergency purposes. We haven't had the theft (not misappropriations, the brother is stealing the $ you've sent if it's not used for it's intended purpose!) like you have. His mother and sister and us have an agreement that since we've footed the bill to bring 2 siblings here and we have all these immigration expenses and with the housing market like it is, that we won't send any $$ except for emergencies.
I think losguerra posted on here her tips for a cheap but beautiful wedding. We did a lot of the decorations, invitations, etc ourselves and most of the $$ went to the dress and our photographer. I think fall wedding are great. It's soo hot here in the summer and everyone has spring and summer weddings. It's refreshing to have a fall wedding. My sister got married in late October, and her decorations, etc. were gorgeous!

Hey girls... I'm in Chicago for training all this week. I just wanted to ask you all to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I am really depressed today as an incident happened last night with one of my colleagues. I don't want to go into detail on here, but it was something extremely scary and traumatic. Because of this, today has been a total nightmare for the leaders of the conference, for that man, and of course for me. As I type this I'm holding back my tears. Anyway, please please please say a prayer for me to be strong and to not let this incident affect my life. Thanks friends!!! :(

Did you all argue why you can't live in HN only, or did you also include why can't live here w/out hubby?? I have stronger arguments for not living there, so I've been focusing on that... but should I include something on why I can't live here w/out him??

Thanks! I agree about the fall wedding. I think it will be November the 8th, it's a Saturday and the day we met. ANd I think that I will have the reception at the club where we met. It's open for business but doesn't get busy until 11 or 12 pm, so that would be perfect for those that wanted to leave and for those that want to party all night. They have large private booth sections that are very nice that I am hoping won't be too pricey to rent.
We got the BC translated yesterday. WHOOPEE!!!
As far as the in-laws, well, I am super cautious now about sending any money. We are still not apeaking to MIL (who sent an apology via a friend..tacky huh?) I think because she is losing her roomates that are paying half the bills this week is the reason, but she has not called herself.

Hi everyone, glad you liked the photos of Isabella (again, sorry they were so huge!). I'm a little biased, of course, but I think she's adorable! :) We're still getting to know each other and I'm learning how to survive (barely) on just a few hours of sleep a day, but it's really just an absolute joy being a new mommy!
Jeialeigh, I argued both sides - if I had to go to Honduras or if I had to stay here without him. I think I obviously had stronger arguments for not going there, but I didn't want to leave any questions unanswered for the person reading it.
Latinsoulmate, we had a fall wedding and it was fantastic. And how sweet to get married on the same day you met! Sounds like you're well on your way to getting it all planned.
Hope you're all doing well!

Just wanted to check in. I am about 25-30 miles NE of New Orleans just across Lake Ponchartrain from east NO's. We have been very busy preparing for hurricane Gustav. We are staying for the storm. I am a little nervous and scared as I live in a mobile home. Mr LSM really worked hard securing our home. It is 100% more prepared than for Katrina.
The difference is that we are on the backside this time instead of the front. That was the side that leveled Mississippi coast just 45 min's to an hour east of us during Katrina. Looks like he will make landfall around Morgan city which is 117 miles from me. Unfortunately the eye is undefined and could stretch hurricane force winds up to 70 miles from the center. That means we will get definitely get tropical storm force winds here. The good news is that it is category 3. I was a nervous wreck as it went over Cuba at a 4 almost a 5!
I am not concerned about flooding as it doesn't flood where we are. Not even during Katrina!
We are well prepared with plenty of food, water and ice. I have propane so I will at least have use of the stovetop. I currently have power but don't know how long that will be as it goes out pretty easy here. Once the power goes, so will the water here as we are on our own well.
We are getting light to medium rain right now with the wind is just starting to pick up. Well, I am going to take a shower (in case it is my last real shower for a few days).

Wanaads -- Congratulations! What a beautiful daughter!
LSM -- hope everything went well. You really scare me when you say you are staying in a mobil home. Our news showed what happened to a mobile home. I pray that you are all safe.
Money for relatives:
I understand the need of the families in Honduras, but we are also see a lack of understanding in how to save money for necessities. Money has been sent home for years by most of the family members but when my daughter went to Honduras in late July she said they really spent the money in wasteful ways (our opinions of course) and there is nothing left. The families here now are all in dire need of the money they make, taking care of children, court problems, one is in jail for 3rd OWI, one waiting trial date next March for deportation. Anyway the money is no longer available. My daughter can barely make it and is unable to send money. SIL is working at his own bar in El Progreso, helping with expenses. His mother got money from her daughter to come to WI to babysit while the daughter works. She is also going to help babysit my daughter's son. She got here on Sunday and we had a party on Labor Day. She broke the news to my daughter that she wanted to be paid for babysitting so that she could send the money to HN so that her husband, my SIL and her daughter could hire a "maid" to clean the house and cook for them!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! A grown man, 2 grown men and a grown woman can't clean and feed themselves! Is this cultural?
I will write again when I have time to let you know about what went on when daughter was in Honduras.
When she got back she sent in the DS-230. She was told she now needed to wait for 30 days before checking on the progress. That is 30 days before getting news that they never got it or lost it again?? I pray that they got it and we will begin to see some progress.

Hey all,
Tomorrow is my step-son's interview at the embassy. I am so nervious. I just really want it to be over with. I just know that they are going to do something like ask for a DNA test of something. I mean it wouldn't matter if they did. He is my husbands son but it would just take longer and cost more money. I am just ready for him to be here and all of it to be over with. I am really dreading the trip to Honduras by myself but we just don't have the money for both of us to go. OH well, Keep us in your thoughts and prayers for tomorrow.

Have any of you been following the recent developments with the removal of US ambassadors from Bolivia and Venezuela? Now, Honduras, in solidarity with these two countries, is refusing to accept the credentials of the new US ambassador to Honduras. I think Honduras is moving on shaky ground. I have already read that some fear that these actions may eventually effect current TPS holders. I am personally worried because my fiancé has family here who are currently under TPS. Independence day is on Monday in Honduras and I think there are supposed to be some protests. Additionally, there have been rumblings that Zelaya is trying to extend his presidency (Honduras has only term presidencies) which is set to end in a year. What do you guys think?

YES, I have been following this VERY closely and Honduras is messing up big time. I too have a feeling that TPS will be revoked (I hate to say this because hubby too has family members under this). He is siding with the wrong people. And the sad thing is Honduras is not like here, yes you can vote etc etc but the govt, is the one that ultimately makes the final decision just because without any type of repercussions. The positive out of it is that is a strong argument in a waiver.

Should we be fearful for those that are still in the process?:gaah:
Hope that everyone affected by IKE is okay.
Best of luck on the interview, Thernand
I am not sure if I should be doing separate posts, but they are different topics so here goes.
In our city we have many EWI people from Mexico. One friend has just returned after spending 14 months in MX, his relative came back in 2 months!!! They said the backup is so bad they are sending them right back. Why doesn't that happen in HN, you would think they are way behind.
Does anyone know if there is a place to post books of interest that one thinks are worth reading by others? I will add mine here, I am in a church reading group and we are reading -- Enrique's Journey, The Story of a Boy's Dangerous Odyssey to Reunite with his mother -- by Sonia Nazario. It is about a boy from Honduras riding the trains through Mexico to come to the US. It makes me cry. I have not finished reading it, it is difficult to sleep at night thinking about it. The hardships in HN are just heartbreaking. :bluesad:

Not sure what went wrong, the second posting I made joined with the first and repeated parts.

aguafria, I had not heard about this, thanks for posting. Very interesting. I'm curious what Zelaya thinks he has to gain by this. I guess cheap oil maybe. Also, not to state the obvious, but I noticed your six months are up today. Have you checked in with DHS on the status?
Son-in-law, I read "Enrique's Journey" about two months after I met my husband and absolutely loved it. It was completely heartbreaking - even more so because the journey was exactly the same one my husband took to get here, on the trains and through the desert, etc. The thought of young children going through that is almost too much to take. I'm glad to hear your church group is reading it.

That is an awesome idea. I will definately include that argument in my waiver. :)

As far as Honduran politics, I see y14 posted a CNN article about the whole ambassador mess. I get most of my news from the Honduran site www.laprensa.hn (I'm a slow spanish reader, but it helps my skills). Today La Prensa is reporting that Sr. Zelaya will accept the credentials on Tuesday. It sure didn't take long for him to change his mind.

Hi everyone,
I'm just checking in to see how everyone is doing!!!If you don't know I live in Houston and have been very busy in the aftermath of IKE.
But I am blessed and so are my children ( We just got power as of yesterday) YIKES!
I am still waiting to hear of my husbands waiver ( 6 months now). I called and spoke to someone from the embassy and she said that they quote " don't have enough staff & to call in two months"!
I don't post often but please be assured that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care and until next time,

Okay ladies.... I have fallen, but did manage to get up. I fell in a big puddle of water in Walmart Saturday and managed to dislocate one of my knees. Of course, it was the knee that I had surgery on 8 years ago to prevent dislocations. It hurt(s) like you would not believe. I've done this so many times I've lost count. When I told the ER people I popped it back in myself they didn't believe me, but when I explained I'd dislocated both knees about 6 or 7 times each and have popped them back in about 5 or 6 times, they got the picture.
I just wanted to ask for your thoughts and prayers as I get through this. I go to my orthopedist hoy and hope he tells me just to take it easy and that I haven't torn/broke anything. Also, please pray for patience for my hubby as he helps me climb the stairs, wash my hair, take a bath, SHAVE (which we did yesterday - OHHHH what a battle that was).
Thank you in advance ladies. I know we're a close group and we always look out for each other, so I just wanted to ask for a little help and support.

I know that i've mentioned this before but i don't want anyone to loose hope. I want everyone to know that i was told the same thing about the eight month wait but the wait ended up to almost ten months. I was also frustrated when the eight months passed and nothing. DHS recieved our papers on july 13, 2007 and we weren't approved until april 28, 2008. After we were approved they called my husband on May 05, 2008 to give my husband the news so we had to wait an extra week. Make sure that DHS has a valid phone number in Honduras, because that is the number they will call. They will not call the petitioner in the U.S. God gives us these tests to see if we will give up on him. When we prove to him that we will not give up on him he will then answer our prayers. Good Luck everyone.

1. G-325A with 2 passport size pics (will they accept ones taken in the U.S.)
2. Forma literal birth certificate for him
3. My naturalization certificate
4. Police Certs
5. I-601 Form w/ filing fee (do we pay that in cash.. lempiras or dollars)
6. HSL packet
7. Visa interview docs such as photos, etc.
8. Medical exam
9. Honduras phone number (for when they call with our APPROVAL)
*Do we need another certified copy of our marriage cert?
What else? I feel like I'm forgetting something.
Also, how much money do you all think we should take in cash? My hubby was saying $1500, but I'm scared of losing it and I can't do anything to change his mind. Thanks for your help.

That all sounds correct. Passport photos from the US are fine and I don't think you need another certified copy of your marriage license but you never know what they're going to ask you for so I would have copies of everything you've sent to NVC. Definitely take dollars to the embassy, they'll exchange lempiras but at a very unfavorable rate.
We took about $1500 in cash and I was terrified the whole time. We used all of it, of course. Walther's so excited to meet you guys!!

I just wanted to share this with you girls.... maybe our beliefs are different, but these words really helped me out today, so I hope they help you all too.
Changing Your Behavior
by Rick Warren
Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Proverbs 4:23 (GNT)
*** *** *** ***
One of the great psychological discoveries of the past century is that your thoughts control your actions. If you want to change the way you act, you must first change how you think.
Actually, thousands of years ago, Solomon pointed this out when he wrote, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts” (Proverbs 4:23 GNT).
The Bible says our thoughts influence six areas of our lives:
· My interpretation influences my situation.
It’s not what happens to me that matters as much as how I choose to see it. The way I react will determine whether the circumstance makes me better or bitter. I can view everything as an obstacle or an opportunity for growth – a stumbling block or a stepping stone. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4 NIV).
· My impressions influence my depressions.
In other words, my mind affects my mood; my thinking determines my feelings. If I’m feeling depressed, it’s because I’m choosing to think depressing thoughts – about my work, family, or anything else. While you cannot always control a feeling, you can choose what you think about, which will control how you feel.“Hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught . . .”(Psalm 55:2 NIV).
· My beliefs influence my behavior.
We always act according to our beliefs, even when those ideas are false. For instance, as a child, if you believed a shadow in your bedroom at night was a monster, your body reacted in fear (adrenaline and jitters) even though it wasn’t true. That’s why it’s so important to make sure you are operating on true information! Your convictions about yourself, about life, and about God influence your conduct.“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples” (John 8:31 NIV).
· My self-talk influences my self-esteem.
You are constantly talking to yourself unconsciously. When you walk into a room full of strangers, what do you tend to think about yourself? To develop more confidence you’re going to have to stop running yourself down! “Ashe thinks in his heart, so is he”(Proverbs 23:7 NKJV).
· My attitude influences my ability.
Winners expect to win. Your perception controls your performance. Mohammed Ali only lost two fights in his career. Before both of them, he said something that he hadn’t said before other fights: “If I should lose this fight […].”“All things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23 NKJV).
· My imagination influences my aspirations.
In other words, your dreams determine your destiny. To accomplish anything, you must first have a mission, a goal, a hope, a vision. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV).

Some good news, I think, our DS-230 was approved, or okayed or whatever on Sept. 21, 2008:o
Where do we go from here? How long will we wait for the interview? Is the 8 month wait so many of you are talking about the wait to get an interview or get the hardship letter approved? I sure hope it is not 8 months for each step. (6-8 mo. to transfer it, 6-8 mo. to schedule the interview, 8-10 mo. to get I-601 HSL approved = about 2 more years!!!) This process is so long and so unfair. Has anyone thought about contacting a talk show like Dr. Phil to let people know what this process is like and what a tragedy it is for so many families in this process? He is big advocate of families. Really, they are always looking for new ideas for their programs, or is this a taboo area and no one will give it press time?
I am sure that many of you are in the same situation as my daughter. Jobs are beginning to slow down. She is now down to 32 hours and not sure if that will go lower -- works in an auto related factory. She struggles to pay her bills, owing more each month than she makes. Health and dental are becoming big problems to pay. She could be without a job by the end of this and then could they say she can not support her husband and not allow his return. She is up and down with her emotions and struggles with whether to send her 3 year old to Honduras or not. She will no longer have free babysitting when her mother-in-law returns to Honduras in Dec. What I really need an answer to is: Has anyone sent their children to HN so you can work more? I am one to think it is really not safe to do that. But I worry all the time.

I had to make the hard decision and leave our daughter with her dad when we went to honduras for his case. It was the hardest decision that i don't think i would do again. Our daughter was three when i left her in honduras, but she never forgot me. Actually she was closer to me when i got there she thought i was going to leave again. When i made this decision it was because i didn't have any family to help me with her and i didn't have money for babysitting so it did help financially. When i went through this process it brought me very very close to god. He gave me enough strengh to get through for three months. I left her in July and I left to honduras in October. What i did was take advantage of the time i had to work more and pay some bills. This sounds funny but it really did happen and it's because god was with me. I was playing the lottery in miami and i ended hitting five out of the six numbers. In a way i wished i would have gotten the six numbers but it didn't happen that way and only god knows why. When i hit the five numbers that gave me enough money to go to honduras for three months to be with my husband and daughter before me and my daughter returned back home. I know that when i didn't have my daughter with me i suffered alot. i would be crying at home and at work. I know it's hard but i honestly wouldn't recommend leaving her because as a mother you will really suffer. If you have to do it then god will help you through it, but again it's going to be very painful. Well i guess this is only some of my experiences about leaving my daughter in honduras. Take care.

We too have thought about leaving our 3yo in Honduras w/ her daddy. BUT, I just am not comfortable with that idea. Not that I think my husband couldn't take care of her, but if something were to happen or she got sick, I would blame myself for allowing her to stay there. I just couldn't live with myself. Plus, I have plenty of family here that can help me with care and babysitting, etc when I need it.

Hi all,
I've posted only a couple of times in the past, but I read this thread at least a couple of times per week. I'm hoping to vent a couple of frustrations, and get some advice.
Very brief background:
My wife and I submitted an i-130 in February 2007 through our old attorney. It was approved in July, but because removal proceedings had already begun, my wife had to return to Honduras in October of last year. We found our first attorney's service to be lacking, so in July of last year we switched attorneys. After my wife returned to Honduras, our new attorney filed an i-824 in January, requesting that the USCIS take action on our approved i-130 and send it to the NVC. Last week, our attorney received a denial notice for the i-824. The notice states that the i-824 was denied because our case was already at the NVC. I called the NVC with the receipt number for our i-130, and was informed that in July of 2007 a fee notice had been sent to our first attorney, and that this past August a follow up letter had been sent to our first attorney asking if we were still interested in pursuing the case. Our first attorney never let us know that they had received these letters, so I was unaware that our case was already at the NVC.
I have several concerns in light of this most recent information:
It seems that the 10 months we've been waiting on the processing of the i-824 have been wasted, as our case was already at the NVC. Should our new attorney have known this?
USCIS did not send me a copy of the denial notice. I had it faxed to me from our current attorney. When I read the notice, I understood that the i-824 was denied because the case was already at the NVC. However, I also noticed that the denial notice did not say how or when our case got to the NVC, that's why I called and discovered that they have had it for over a year. Our current attorney didn't pick up on this from reading the denial letter, and told me that they are awaiting the fee bill from the NVC, which obviously isn't coming. If I was able to figure this out from the denial notice, shouldn't my attorney have been able to figure this out?
I guess what I'm wondering is if this is the kind of service I should expect from my attorney, or if I have a reasonable bone to pick with them. It seems to me that they should be aware of these things long before I am able to figure them out on my own. After all, I pay them for their experience, not so that I can figure things out for myself as I go along.
And btw, our attorney is listed in http://immigrate2us.net/forum/showthread.php?t=889&highlight=matthew+kolken as a recommended attorney.
Thanks again for any help, and for the opportunity to vent some frustrations.

Hey Everyone!!!
In the midst of all the news with delays I have decided to go see my hubby for a week in November.... I am so excited you won't believe...
SoninLaw: About the kids in Honduras. My son was out there for 2 1/2 months. I can't complain too much because he was with his grandmother... He did however get sick while being out there. They took him to the hospital to which I was mortified,:shy: but everything came out just fine. Thank God.
The next day he was on a plane back home with his mama!
If you have any questions regarding the experience just PM me...

I completely understand your frustration and it is so sad that some attorneys really don't take the time to research exactly what's going on with the case. So did your wife receive voluntary departure?
If your wife wasn't deported or doesn't have any criminal issues, I really feel you can do this process on your own. You will find a lot of great advise on this forum from people that actually care about helping people in the same situation as their's.
Good luck!

Ugh is right! Somebody please get these waivers done!!!
Seth, we didn't use an attorney so maybe my expectations are a little high, but for the amount of money I'm sure you are paying I would've expected the attorney to have been in contact with both your first attorney and NVC and to have been totally on top of this for you. I'm not saying one should be completely passive just because they have an attorney but you are paying him to be the expert here and, imo, to make sure that you don't have these kinds of unnecessary delays. I would also report your first attorney to the state bar for not forwarding those letters to you.
I'm so sorry you've had to wait all this additional time! Best of luck to you and your wife.

I'm not entirely sure what the definition of voluntary departure is. My wife was given a date by which she had to leave, and she left on that date. We purchased the ticket, and she volunatarily went to the airport, but she did have an outstanding deportation order. As I understand it, this is not considered voluntary departure. How much does it complicate matters if she did not receive voluntary departure? Is it still something I can do myself? I am leaning in that direction given these recent events.

Every time I've spoken with someone at USCIS, they have told me that whatever is sent to my attorney is also sent to me. However, as far as I know they have sent three letters to my attorney, and I have not received a copy of any of them. So I imagine if you call, they will say it will be sent, but in fact it will not be. Not sure how you could work around that....
Edit:

I agree 100%, that's why this is so frustrating. Were I doing this myself, I would expect to create some delays due to mishandled paperwork (although I should be able to avoid that with the help of this forum). That's why we are using an attorney.
What bothers me most is that when my attorney saw the most recent letter from USCIS, stating that our i-824 was denied because our i-130 was already at the NVC, he assumed that it had just gotten there and that paperwork from the NVC would be forthcoming. When I read the letter (after they faxed it to me at my request), it was immediately apparent to me that our case had not necessarily just arrived at the NVC. That's why I called the NVC, and found out that it had been sitting there for over a year. What is so frustrating is that I have never dealt with anything like this before, but I feel that I did a better job of interpreting where our case stands than our attorney did.
Thanks everyone for the help and responses, and for letting me get some of this out.

Hi all,
I've posted only a couple of times in the past, but I read this thread at least a couple of times per week.
Okay, the new attorney should have realized from the denial letter that the case is at the NVC. . .sounds like he did since he said they are waiting on the fee.
ANY attorney you use, you are going to have to watch. They are NEVER going to care about your case as much as you do. For us it is life or death, for them it is a number and a pay check. Personally, I would have never used an attorney for the form portion of the case, because it is so time sensitive and you can do it much faster than they can, again because they have so many other priorities. . .When my case was at NVC I had the package returned the same day as I received it because my packets were prepared in advance. You would NEVER get this type of service from an attorney's office.
I think this situation just lets you know that you are going to have to keep an eye out for similar "ball drops" in the future. . .
Since your old attorney (very unprofessionally) never told you or your new attorney the case was at the NVC, and all notices were still going to him, you can't really blame the attorney for that. All he really knows is the information that you provide. Too bad he didn't contact the old attorney though, that could have saved a lot of time off of the I-824.
BTW, just as a side suggestion, any time you have a question like this, it is probably good to start a new thread. . .hardly anyone checks the separate country long threads for questions like this and it could be helpful to someone else. I would have never seen this unless one of the other mods had brought it to my attention.

Thanks! I'm super excited of going to Honduras. For some odd reason, I don't feel sad about him leaving. I guess crying for over 2 years is enough. I just want this nightmare to be over with so we can really start living! He wants to go to college so bad and I want to start law school, but we can't do that until he gets his papers.
Whenever you're ready to continue with the process, just think of the end result. It is well worth the separation! I also pray my husband will be approved quickly. Hopefully under the estimated time. As long as he's back by next August, I'll be happy. That's when I plan to start law school. :)

It is also very important to take off spray for mosquitos. My daughters mosquito bites got very infected that she stayed with the bite scars. I was there from october to december and i also needed an umbrella, raincoat, and rainboots. Sounds funny but it's true. It rains and rains in this season. Good Luck on your trip klame1983.

That's the scary thing about having a lawyer, nobody cares about your case as much as you do. If you do continue using a lawyer, remember this when it comes time to write your HSL. You will always be more convincing than a lawyer because this is your life that depends on the HSL, not theirs. I was lucky to have a pretty "simple" case with my husband and am so glad I was able to do it on my own!

Yes!!! this one is most important. Especially once your tummy starts to react to being in Honduras, you will definitely be needing your own TP!!!

Anyway, we're in Ft. Lauderdale, FL waiting for our other flight to San Pedro Sula. It leaves in about 2 hours.
I'm not nervous anymore, just super excited. So is hubby!
I feel really good about our waiver. I'm just a little bit paranoid because I prepared it in one day! It's 7 (HSL) pages long with 25 exhibits. I hope it's ok!
Anyway, I hope I have access to the internet during our stay there. Take care!
Oh, and y14gemini... what's the freak is going on with your waiver?!?!?!?! Please get your senator or someone involved. That's ridiculous, especially because yáll turned it in before they actually started counting time! Ugh... if you want me to I can slap them silly on Wednesday. lol

Hello all,
I´m writing from an internet cafe in La Ceiba! OMG... everyone and everything in Honduras is awesome! Today we went to the beach, to eat guineos (wrong spelling), rode a cool ity bity taxi into the city (so cute, post pics later).
Oh, and also his family is great! They have been very welcoming and sweet! All my nervousness was for nothing. A bunch of little kids follow me around calling me tia (aunt). I brought them toys and candy, so I guess that´s why they think we´re family. Some are, but most aren´t. lol
Hubby is acting really weird. I guess he still can´t believe he´s home. We leave to Tegucigalpa on Sunday. We might fly or rent a car. Don´t know since a lot of parts are flooded.
I already took a lot of pics, but I´ll post them when I get back to the states.
I got chills reading your post! I'm so happy for you. I know you are going to have soo much fun. Isn't that so cool hearing "Tia! Tia!"? (I wanna go back to Mexico!)
Gosh, girl, have fun! I can't wait to see your pictures. Tell your hubby to pinch himself (or better yet, let you do it :) ) cause he is really there!

I have not been on lately. Are you just going to visit or for your interview? My daughter is waiting for her appointment. I checked the embassy site today and Nov. appointments are not posted yet. She got her DS 230 okayed 3 months ago.
How long does it take to get an appointment? We thought we would hear by now.
You must stop and visit with my son-in-law. He runs a bar in Progreso, Lazo's Bar or Tap or something like that is the name. I am at work now and I will try to get a photo of the place off to you if my computer is working well when I get home. My daughter says it is a nice place that women are not afraid to go to. There is a female bartender and my SIL. Stop in and say "HI"
Hey, where do we find copies of HSLs?

Maybe this needs to be a new thread. Something to show those of us that are techno impaired how to do simple things.
How do you attach a picture? It asks for a URL, does that mean that I need to have a site like Myspace or facebook where I have a picture and then somehow connect with a link to it?
I can't just attach a picture? Not even to a PM.:dizzy:

You need to go to photobucket (www.photobucket.com) and create an account. Once you have an account set up then you uploaad the pictures from your computer. Once you have them uploaded in photobucket, then you copy the link under the pic that says [IMG] and then paste it in your message. Good Luck!!

10 months!!! That's insane. What are they thinking? I wish they could just do like in Mexico and look at them the same day.
Hang in there y14gemini!!! At least you know what's going on and they're not just telling you craziness.

Okay, this is the letter that I received today from my senators office:
Dear Mr. Nelson:
Thank you for contacting our office regarding your constituent Mrs. y14gemini. Mr. y14gemini's I-601 waiver application was received by this office on January 25, 2008. At present moment we are adjudicating cases received in December 2007 and January 2008. We expect to render a decision within the next 30 - 60 days.
As soon as a decision is reached we will contact the Petitioner.
Sincerely,
So that is it, that is what I have received, no signature no nothing......

y14gemini...
Your timeline is really scaring me. Do you think it might have to do with his fingerprints or something like that?
y14gemini
11-10-2008, 12:58 AM
I have no idea...his name isn't that common (at least I think not except for the last)..... and they didn't alert to that during the interview. I mean as soon as he did the fingerprints the results came right up on the screen for the IO.

waanads: I'm so happy that you and your daughter get to visit your hubby this month. You must be sooo excited! How is little Isabella? I wish I were part of the recent travelers (you, y14gemini, and jesy1). If you're going to be in Tegus on the 19th you'll probably be in the midst of the excitement from the Honduras/Mexico World Cup qualifier.
Klame: I'm glad you made it back safely and everything went well.
I think the adjudication times are running longer than six months because they simply don't have enough people. Just my opinion...

:bounce: Can't sleep this morning. I just talked to daughter. Daughter spent the weekend here and when she got home there was a letter about her appointment in HN. It is scheduled for Dec. 29!
This is exciting and scary. She has been procrastinating on her HSL. Now she is under a time crunch. She needs to get tickets to go. Luckily it looks like she will be on vacation at that time.
With the chances of snow storms how many days ahead of time does she need to make her flight? If she sets it to arrive in TEGU on the 28th and a snow storm comes she will not make it. If she goes ahead of time she will need to go to San Pedro and they will need to drive to TEGU. We are not sure about her going directly to TEGU unless her husband is there to meet her and then they will need a hotel until the 29th.
y14gemini I will check on the colonia, she will need to talk to him about this info.
Another question, how important is it that she be there? I think very if she plans to turn in the HSL at that time. Oh, there is so much to do now and I have been telling her to get prepared for this and get the letter started, only she can write that letter and make it meaningful.
Any suggestions on the letter? I am giving her copies of the ones online, she does not use a computer. I pray she can do this.
Thank you all for your prayers :grouphug:

WooHoo ! Congrats on the interview!! Depending when she gets there he may already be in Tegus. Remember he has to go and have his medical done. In my case I did not go with hubby to his medical and he met me in Tegus. So me and the kids flew directly into Tegus. We did, however, go to the interview with him. Unlike CDJ (Mexico) the spouses are allowed into the consulate with their spouse/fiancée.
I am sure everything will work out with her and the HSL, just tell her to start and do a little at a time.

That's great news, son-in-law! She doesn't have to be there at the interview, but it doesn't hurt. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to fly out for my fiance's interview. He said that the lady asked him where I was and he told her I was working and couldn't come.
Have fun to all of you flying out soon to Catracholand!!

OMG bad news today. SIL runs a bar in Bario Montevideo (I guess it is not called a colonia) It was robbed and his computer was stolen. Some of SIL friends caught the guy with the computer and turned him in to the police. The next day there was a death treat under the door unless SIL gets the guy out of police custody. Now he will not go back to the bar and is trying to sell the business. His life and his only means of making a living have been threatened. :unfair:He thinks that if he does not return to the bar he will be safe, I pray he is right.
Is there some way that this can be used in the HSL? He went to the police and they kept the original letter, but made a copy of it for him.
Plans for the interview. SIL will have to go to TEGU to get physical, but looks like everything else is okay. Problem is that the Dec. 29 is a Monday and does anyone know if the place for the physical will be open the week of Christmas? Not sure how they celebrate Christmas down there. Do businesses close just for Christmas Day or for the week? Anyway, we have to take a chance on not being snowed in at Chicago so we need to plan an extra day or 2 just in case. How long do you think she needs to stay?

OMG, SIL, I'm so sorry to hear about this. What does your SIL plan to do? Is he going to stay in the area? That is just so scary! I think this can absolutely be used in the HSL. This would be a huge mitigating factor I would think. Please keep us updated. I'm off to Tegus late tonight with the baby. I'll ask my husband about whether things are open that week after Christmas and post later this week.
Wanaads have a safe and enjoyable trip this week.
Thanks, aguafria! I just read in the other thread that your husband is in the south - I should have offered to bring stuff for him. I just didn't even think about it. I'm so harried just trying to get my stuff and the baby's together. I've done a lot of traveling in my day but traveling with an infant is a whole different story. How am I going to change her diaper on the plane?? What if she doesn't sleep the whole time and then her schedule is thrown off the whole time we're there? I've been laying awake at night thinking of all these silly things!
Anyway, I'm suuuuuuuuper excited to see my boy!!! CANNOT WAIT! We'll be in his arms in less than 24 hours!
Much love to you all - I'll check in while I'm there. I'm turning in an addendum to the embassy so I'll let you all know how that goes.

Andrea,
Awww... I'm so happy for you. I'm sure your husband has the jitters and probably won't sleep at all tonight. Where are you connecting?
I'm sure the baby will be just fine. How long will you be there? Tell your husband we (hubby and I) say hello and thank you again for the help he gave us while we were in Tegus. :)

I need help with an expedite resquest for my husband and his I 601 waiver, I am 5 weeks pregnant and have been really sick for the last 3 weeks , i have no one to help take care of me because i live in florida and my family in michigan. to top it off i am grieving for the recent death of my step mother. if anyone can help with ideas for the expedite that would be great.. thanks so much

Mrs. Reyes: Based upon what you have stated, is this just morning sickness or something else that perhaps you could get your doctor to write you a note? I am sorry to hear of your stepmother. You could also have a doctor write you a letter about how hard it is for you to be without any help during your pregnancy and especially with the recent death of your stepmother. However, not to be cruel, but realize going into the expedite process that it has to be very severe and that there are lots of women who go through a pregnancy and childbirth without any help or support for whatever reasons.
Sometimes the Embassies don't even answer an expedite. Your best bet would be to try to get a Congressman's office involved in your case to see if perhaps they can help. How long have you been waiting?

Mrs Reyes
Ditto also. I tried to ask about an expedite towards the end of our wait because my father, who was suffering with cancer, was told there was nothing more they could do. I was raising our little girl alone while working full time. They pretty much said that I myself had to be dying in order to get an expedite. We waited 8 months from when they received our waiver, so I'm not sure if they rushed it a little more than otherwise, but I doubt it. My father passed away late
