My F1 student visa application got rejected by the US embassy in Singapore, with the officer citing the reason of her thinking I'm not in the united states for the sole purpose of pursuing an education.
Last December I had entered the United states under the Visa Waiver Program for a period of 90 days. I had originally applied for a B2 visa as I wasn't sure how long I would be staying in the states, it being my post-graduation holiday and most of my friends studying in the united states were calling me to go look for them and stay with them for short periods of time. So my mom suggested I apply for a tourist visa should I extend my stay, so i would not need to rush back if I'm not ready to come back.
During that interview, the officer had rejected my application, saying that it did not look like i had enough reason to want to come back to Singapore. He said I had no school nor job to tie me back down here, and I could possibly be trying to look for illegal employment in the US. (He was, however, sympathetic with me, saying it was mainly his superior's orders that the visa does not get approved. He on the other hand, totally saw where I was coming from)
So during my interview today, the officer's first question was why did i apply for a B2 visa. And i told her the reason being that I wanted to visit my friends, and didn't want the problem and hassle of time constraints. Also, I mentioned that I was looking at schools to possibly attend. She then asked when did i decide to study in the US and I told her I had been thinking about it when I was still in university. Then she asked if I had told the first officer that during my first visa application, and I said no.
So she found my answers contradictory and claimed I was going to enter the US for reasons of merely wanting to live there instead of seriously wanting to pursue an education.
But the reason why I had not mentioned anything to the first officer was because it was such a sketchy plan, and I would've wanted to sort the financial aspect out with my family before I made any concrete statements!
Also, she had asked about why the change in education plan from English Literature to Nutrition. I explained to her Nutrition and Dietetics is not available in Singapore, and she asked why did i apply to a community college instead of a university. I told her i had to fulfill prerequisites first, and the university I was interested in (Bastyr Univeristy in State of Washington) had recommended i got it done in a community college. She said my application to a community college, coupled with the fact that I 'thumbed my nose' at the first officer's rejection of my B2 visa by staying in the US for 90 days made my application very unsatisfactory to her.
Hence she rejected my application. ON TOP OF THAT SHE REMOVED MY VWP ELIGIBILITY!!!
Is there anything you can do to help me out?
I've been rejected under the SECTION 214(b) of the US IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY ACT.
Please let me know if there is anything I can possibly do to help convince them otherwise.
Or how long, if ever, it will take to for my VWP to be reinstated? Will I ever regain this eligibility? Or is it a permanent removal whereby I'll always have to apply for a visa should I want to enter the US?
How may I reapply to get my student visa approved? As much as I am dissed off by what happened, the USA has a goldmine of educational facilities that I would really want to tap on. I just wish I could!
Please help!!
