ok, in the top right corner of the g-325a, there's a box that says "file number" with the letter A in it. do i put something in there (i don't have a file number!) or do i leave it blank? is it for an alien number if i had one?

and one more- i was a residential student at boston college for 4 years, but my legal "home address" was still my parents' house in nj. do i put the boston college address as my residence or leave it as the nj address?

As far as the # on the upper right hand corner, if you don't have on, leave it blank...
As far as your address, if you had your college address as your "residential" address and your parents' address as your mailing, then you should put the college address for the period you were there.
I would put that down anyway, for the entire period you lived there...even if you didn't list it as the residential. They mainly want to know where you physically were the past 5 years...

Use the address that you lived at.

Re file number
Never leave a question blank. Always best to at least put 'None' for File number, meaning you don't have an A number from any previous dealing with USCIS, if that is the case. Leaving it blank shouldn't cause a problem but a good habit is to always answer a question. You will be assigned an A number during this process.
