Has anyone gone through or know anything about consular processing of a US son for a father?

Have a read of this updated guide to Filing your I-130 abroad - Direct Consular Filing (DCF) (http://www.familybasedimmigration.com/forum/showthread.php?t=824) for an Immediate Family Relative i.e. spouse, child, parent of a US citizen. It will pretty much answer many of your questions

Thanks Aussiewench for the info...but I think I didn't ask my question correctly (or use the right term)...
I was wondering if anyone, who is a USC living in the US, had gone through petitioning for their father or mother who are outside the US...
In this case, is going through the NVC, the only way (when the petitioner is in the US, and the beneficiary is not)?

Thanks again!

Ahhhhhhhh okies, yes it was the term 'consular processing' in your first post that had me respond that way :)

What are you actually wanting to know, about which stage? Below are some links that may help answer some of your questions.

You can find petitioning procedures for a parent HERE (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=01b6194d3e88d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCR D&vgnextchannel=4f719c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1 RCRD) as well as a general guide to filing the I-130 for an Immediate Relative (http://www.familybasedimmigration.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12)

I think I have a fairly good grasp about the way this one will work (although I have not yet sat down to do the paperwork, therefore, I haven't had the opportunity to have specific questions yet)... but my biggest thing is if there is another possibility, other than sending the I-130 to a service center here, having them forward the case to NVC, then having NVC forward the case to the consulate...

I think that's it...
Once again, thanks!

There is no other way when the US citizen is residing in the US.

USCIS Service Center >>> NVC >>> Consulate

There are ways to save a little time at the NVC stage See NVC Timesavers (http://www.familybasedimmigration.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48)

Thanks again...I guess after looking at some of these websites, I do have a question...
It says something about some people needing to submit the DS-230 Part I & II and some who only have to submit Part I.
Do you know who has to do both and who has to do Part I only? I guess there is a difference in who schedules the final interview (Consulate or NVC) depending on that factor...

Those required to submit both parts I & II of the DS-230 and all accompanying documentation will have their interviews scheduled by NVC. Those required to only submit DS-230 part I and biographic page of their passport, will have their interview scheduled by the consulate/embassy.

To find the Application Instructions (DS-230) applicable to the Consulate Post in your Country's Consulate/Embassy see HERE (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html)

If you read the National Visa Center (NVC) IV PROCESS & FLOWCHART that I linked in the previous post, it contains lots of valuable information for this stage, including links.

yes...but do you know how they determine who has to submit Part I only and who has to submit both?
Thanks!

A few years back the consulates used to do ALL the visa applications for Immigrant Visas. Then the National Visa Center was created to take the weight off the consulates. The NVC now does the Immigrant Visa application stage. More and more countries are being moved across to complete NVC processing as time moves on. In the instructions for individual countries from the drop down menu in the link I posted above, it indicates if one is required to submit both parts 1 and II of the DS-230 and all documents. All countries that are required to submit both parts, have their interview scheduled by NVC. Eventually all countries will have this requirement, and all interviews will be scheduled by NVC. There is no criteria that I am aware of, as to why particular countries are moved across before others are.
