Hi does anyone know of a good immigration lawyer located in Illinois. I have already looked on the american immigration lawyer association but I want to know anyones personal referral. Also where can I get more information on the pilot program?
Thanks:wave:

Kika - just so you know, it's not necessary to hire a lawyer in Illinois, because immigration is federal law. The most highly recommended lawyer on this site is our very own Laurel Scott, and there are others that are recommended at times as well. Laurel specializes in the I-601 waiver. You can check out her practice at visacentral.net.
Also, here's a thread (http://immigrate2us.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1163) she started on other lawyers she recommends.
What country is your spouse from? Will you be filing a waiver?
The pilot program is for immigrants who require the I-601 waiver of inadmissibility and are filing at the Ciudad Juarez Consulate in Mexico. If that is your situation, you might want to post in the I-601 Mexico forum, Marriage-based AOS is not an option for anyone who entered the U.S. illegally.

Thanks Laura for advise but I am actually looking for a local attorney. I would feel more comfortable working with a lawyer who is in my state and one who I can interact face to face. So if anyone knows of a lawyer in Illinois who has worked on your case on fixing spouse status rather they entered "LEGALLY" or "ILLEGAL" please let me know!
Thanks Again

What do you mean? Are you looking for someone to walk you through the AOS forms for someone who entered on a non-immigrant spousal visa or a tourist visa?

Well, honestly, if you are going to be filing a waiver for illegal presence, you really need an attorney who is familiar with this process. (Not many are). You are posting in the AOS section, so maybe that is not the case, but you also mentioned the pilot program, which makes me think you might be filing a waiver. There are lots of lawyers that people on this site have used, many have been misled and then found their way via advice from this site. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head from Illinois (I'm from Milwaukee) that raved about their lawyer, but maybe someone will pop in.

I think Madrika loved her lawyer. Is she in Indianapolis or Chicago?

I don't see anyone on the list from Indy...I am thinking maybe Adriane found a good lawyer in Indy. I know she found a bad one but I though she found a good one as well.

Madrika is from Indy. I remember Adriane talking about a horrible attorney, not sure about a great one as well.
The only person I can think of from the Chicago area right now is Barona (I know there are more, but I'm not sure if anyone is in the process right now) and then me, Azul, Roque and Erinn from Milwaukee. I'm almost positive none of them used an attorney.
I have an acquaintance here in Milwaukee who told me she had consulted with an attorney and they had told her all about the waiver process (she's married to a Mexican EWI as well, so we were bonding about immigration stuff), so that might be promising. But I guess it still depends on Kika's situation, if she's going to need a waiver or if this is just straightforward AOS.
Do people hire attorneys for AOS? It seems like such a simple process after all this crap... that's scary though.

I absolutely ADORED my lawyer!
Sadly the attorney who wrote my waiver is no longer with the firm because she just gave birth to TRIPLETS!!!!! How exciting, but anyway, I would definitely reccomend the firm anyday from my personal experience. THe paralegal I dealt with is also no longer with the firm.
I actually started with one attorney in the firm for the I130 and then was switched to the one who did my waiver when we got to the NVC part of it all!
I have heard though that some people have had problems with them though. You know how it goes one person loves and the other hates! But anyway I would be glad to give you their contact info, just PM me if you would like to know. They are based out of Indianapolis!
