My hubby got a phone call late at night asking if he could spare money at the last minute because a family friend had been kidnapped by the "coyote". Of course my hubby did not have this kind of money at the last minute. It was $2000.It was supposed to be $1000 but since he was "kidnapped" it had turned into $2000. I felt bad,but what could we do? Plus this is really not our problem. Why would this guy come without knowing who he was dealing with. The "coyote" was pointing a gun at him and at a 19 year old kid. They were so scared that they were crying. My hubby said that this is normal. When you are Tijuana you are told not to answer the door because someone else might take you. This is what happened, they crossed them over and the price went up. I felt really bad and wished that we could call the cops, but of course that is out of the questions. This so dangerous yet people are still doing it. It's really sad.
Oh no! Have you heard anything since then? It is getting so darn dangerous down there. I hope everything works out okay and he/she is safe.

Several months ago someone posted this exact same story. I think it turned out to be a scam to get money.

Yes, Pinkpig is probably right this sort of thing happens all the time.
My husbands mother got a phone call once telling her they had my husband after he had been here several years already..... luckily he talks to his mom weekly and she did not fall for it, and called to check on him.

Oh My Goodness,This scares me! Everytime I hear about someone comming over here illegally I worry. You just never know when you deal with people you don't know. Coyotes don't care about their reputations anymore because they are so scarce nowadays, uhhh people are so greedy how can a person do this to another person is beyond me. And Tijuana..... that has to be the worst place! People will do just about anything to get money.
I hope he is alright.

Oh my goodness. This is horrible. I've actually heard this has become quite common. Many cases it ends up being that the coyote owes money to some of the hardcore narcotraffickers, and to claim their money, the narcos will take all of the "clients" as hostages. My husband has told stories of this happening to multiple friends of his that have crossed in the past couple years. From the sounds of it, this has become really common. Incredibly frightening. I hope this friend is okay. He's in the hands of evil people. All we can do now is pray that he's safe.

I have heard of this to. A local guy from here had it happen when he went to Mexico to visit last Christmas. His situation was real and he almost lost his life. But people will find out how to do a scam in everything.

Something like this happend to someone we know. she was a 13 year old girl and the coyote called and said her parents would need to pay 1500.00 or he was going to rape her and kill her. They paid the money and she made it to them safe.

Turns out this coyote was also a "friend". The money was paid and both guys are okay.I'm just mad that these people live by there own laws because no one will call the police on them because they know that they will also get in trouble or deported.
My dad who lives in Mexico said that there are people who are always listening in conversations from America to Mexico. That is how they always get the names of relatives and they call and threaten the family back in america. I had phone calls like this before where they will say "your family member is here send the money." One time my hubby told one of the guys that he would send the money and we laughed at this cause the guy was really happy.
Another time after repeated calls my hubby asked this guy "no te da verguenza robarle a tu propia gente? , Ponte a trabajar! :curse:(insert bad words and names here) Get a job!
