It's come to our attention that in a few instances, bits and pieces of HSL that have been posted here have been copied verbatim.

The purpose of the Hardship Letter is to put your hardships down in your own words.

These letters are only meant to be viewed as examples. They are not letter forms where you fill in the blanks.

Copying a letter verbatim would have the potential to hurt you more than benefit you.

Please remember that CDJ officials have been reported to be reading this forum.

You know, Marie, this did happen to cross my mind as well at one point in time. So, I would have to agree with you 100%, Marie. CDJ officials do look at this site. Plagerism is taken seriously with them and copying even just a few sentences can cause your significant other to get a denial. No one wants that for their special loved one.

It's okay to get ideas from them, but the worst thing you can do is copy word for word (or even just changeing a couple of words here and there or changing the order). When I shared my HSL, I am sharing it to lead you in the right direction and to guide you. I'm sure I'm not alone; that the others that shared theirs are probably on the same page with this.

Just keep your faith in God, ask Him to keep your mind clear to to help you achieve the wording and evidence that will get you an ultimate approval. Good luck to all still leading in this path!

I can really understand why it is not a good idea to copy, but I am really thankful for being able to read hsl. To get an idea of what kind of things are hardships. For example I have a lot of medical problems and did not even think I could add those, but now I know that I definitely would and also include family history illness because my family has some.

This is in relation to letters included in your waiver evidence packet from friends/family/bosses/children. You are not supposed to edit other people's words. Your own letter should be as correct as you can make it. However, it is your own writing. . .don't make it unnatural for you.

I agree, no one should copy a hsl, I just couldnt imagine risking it at CDJ.

I mainly used the examples to get a format for our hsl and just have an idea what all should be included.

The letter needs to be about your personal life experiences. If you are having trubble with ideas, the example letters should help. Copying letters is a bad idea since counceler officers have six months to evaluate your hardship packet. (6months in Guatemala) They have plenty ways to evaluate genuine letters and plagerized letters.

One way to help with hardship ideas is to make a quick visit to a psychologist. They can help you formulate ideas and ours even wrote a letter in support of our case

Sincerely,

Shawn

i am 100% positive that somewhere, a long time ago, maybe even on the old site, i read about a waiver being denied through london because the wording in the HSL was nearly identical to another letter they had received. definitely be careful about that. besides, it's just plain wrong. i am pretty proud of my writing and i'd be extremely upset if someone took what i had posted to help someone and just copied it without regard to my intentions or feelings.
