We submited our 601 2 months ago in Amsterdam, It is now in Frankfurt Germany. I have heard contacting a senator and having them contact the embassy is a good thing. I am kind of confused what I should be asking my senator to do though. Should I just contact the office and ask for him/her to inquire aobut my waiver or something else?
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Senators are usually, in the case of 601's, to be used when the case is outside processing dates. In other words, if you don't hear from them within the time limit the consulate gave you, you will want to contact the Senator's liaison.

I used my senator to get our waiver expedited on health and severe financial grounds. They can also get updates on the waiver if you have not heard anything in the stated time.

We were told that it have to be at least 6 month like waiver in process ( for Vienna) before senator can contact them. We changed senator’s office and they contacted Vienna in a week to ask a status of our application.
We were told that they can not ask to expedite the handling of the waiver, just to send an inquiry.

It really depends on the senator and or representative. Some will be very helpful and do everything that they can and some will do nothing. The stories that they tell you will vary. They can help and they can expedite your case if they choose to. Very few of them will choose to.
If the first one that you contact will not help you then contact the second senator and then your representative. This is part of constituent service.
Good Luck.

We have one of our senators helping us and they have BEEN extremely great and keep us updated on any and all news. We contacted them before we had the interview and submitted our waivers. They could not do anything till the waiver was submitted but once it was they have been in contact with the appropriate ppl and have been working on getting it expedited due to health, financial and our soon to be born baby girl. I am so very thankful they are being so proactive and we are hoping to hear very soon and god willing with some good news.
I truly think it depends on the senator and how willing they are to get involved. Everyone is different. I know one of our senators would not help and it took them 3months to tell us and the other one we have been working very closely with and she has been truly great!! I believe they get so many request and help where they can but it can be luck of the draw too and / or if they feel sensitive to your particular case.
Good luck....I truly hope you can get some extra help.
