I am applying for a waiver of grounds of inadmissibility for my fiancée. Her visa interview went alright but due to a positive result on her HIV test, such waiver has to be filed. I have the necessary forms, and I will be able to get the necessary signatures of the Doctor/health facility and endorsement of a local or state health officer. What I am having problems with is information on medical insurance.

Can anyone provide any resources for securing medical insurance for someone who has not yet arrived in the USA? Also, does anyone have the web address or contact information of any non-government organizations that provide free or discounted HIV treatment? She has no symptoms whatsoever but the waiver application requires such proof.

4nellag, have you checked into your health insurance and the possibility of adding her now i.e. domestic partner? Several insurance companies now offer this.

Also, take a look here for a start -- the memo is slightly outdated due to fee changes but there's a reference to a Medical Clinic that might be able to help or you guide you:

An uninsured client should try to obtain health insurance coverage before submitting the waiver application. Otherwise, he or she should submit a letter from an alternative source of nongovernmental medical care, such as the Whitman-Walker Clinic Medical Services Department, declaring its willingness to treat the client at low or no cost. Additionally, the client should submit any available evidence of financial support from family members and/or friends in the U.S.
