Ok so be gentle. I've never done anything like this before.

This is going to be my veggie garden. Well half of it. I'm going to make another just like it 2ft away and have a trellis with my wisteria plant for the walkway.

I have my entire backyard mapped out with what I want to do but it's a matter of $$. (who knew dirt was so expensive!). We'll have to wait until next year I think for the next bed. I want to make another bed first instead of 2 veggie beds. Everything has to be raised because of the buried cables.

I bought landscape timbers that were on sale for 2$ each. I'm not quite done but I need a longer extension cord :bounce:

I learned another thing: make sure you drill a hole big enough or you will need monster strength to drive those nails through. The nails are 7inches!

The brick isn't going to stay there. It's there so I know where my wisteria aka "stick in the mud" is and it keeps the dog off it.

The wisteria is actually getting some leaves! I'm thrilled!

Good start Marie! My father has about 6 that look like that, maybe a little wider. FYI make sure when you start planting you plant the sunny veggies in the sun and the shade ones by the fence. (It seems the fence and tree block the sun) Show us some blooming veggies!

Yeah that was taken at 6pm so the sun was already setting. I think it gets sun all day long but that was my plan just in case. It's 16x4.

It's a work out!

That looks nice, Marie! I like a raised bed garden. It's just the right size to work comfortably and reach across the rows. I put the rest of my garden in this weekend. I'm hoping for a bumper crop for the both of us.

Marie, I just seen your pictures of your garden. I hope I am not too late but you really should have your beams on raised blocks. The reason being if you have them sitting directly on the ground, you will be replacing them in about 5 years due to rot. My husband builds log home kits and the pricipal is the same. Even if they are filled with soil, if they are raised off the ground, you won't have to replace them for 10 - 15 years.

Have fun gardening. I won't be able to plant mine this year until the end of May. It has been soooo cold.

wow marie that looks great! i'm starting to get inspired since we have a large empty spot for a garden, but it would look so nice blocked off like that.

btw i'm lovin that old-school satellite dish behind the fence.

yeah what an eyesore. They have like 2 others on their house too.

My garden is still stalled. I bought the longer cord but haven't had a chance to get out there.

I still haven't been able to call around to find someone to bring me some dirt. It's always going to rain lately and i really don't want a heap of mud right now.

@teejay: that actually is a good idea but the spikes go down a bit and i don't think it would lay straight. It's not a permanent thing. I think i want to put stone all the way around in the end. Still thinking about that.
